Incidentally, Banjo turning into a frog is a development gag. Basically, after the final showdown in the original, Grunty's last spell was supposed to turn him into a frog, with finding out how to turn back being a final challenge. Of course, it was eventually changed to Grunty missing, so we may never know how it would've gone down.
