As a huge Mayday Parade fan, I understand why people think they were better off with Jason, his lyrics and A Lesson In Romantics were just amazing, but that doesn't mean that Mayday arn't still fucking class! I love Anywhere But Here and this album is just as good :D
I like it but.. They've changed so badly! what happened to the songs like Take this to heart, when I get home you're so dead, one man drinking games?. I don't know... I expected to much from them on this new album :S.
Personally, I've really liked the lyrics from this new album. I like this song. It's a big step up from the last album in my opinion. I think they've found their own sound. Of course, in a perfect world, Jason would still be with them. But I think that this album will prove that they don't need him to make amazing music. They're great musicians and lyric writers on their own. So excited for the new album. :3
I still think that they're still awesome. Yes, some of their songs went a little fast but it's okay. Bands undergo change, their music change but in some ways they're still the same band who gave us 3 cheers, I Swear This Time I Mean it, Miserable at Best and other good songs.
was trying to figure out what i think is wrong with this album, and personally...as a mayday fan from the very first ep...
they're trying so hard to go back to a lesson in romantics after failing on anywhere but here.
the problem is, the lyrics just don't flow the way they did when jason wrote them. the lyrics seem odd, out of place...honest, and good writing...but not an actual song, more like singing songs out of words that would fit on paper, but don't fit on sheet music.
@OhHopeh I definitely see what you mean. Like... Another thing I've noticed that all they're songs have to be all fast and stuff. I think they need to slow down and just go with the beat. I don't really know how to explain what I mean. haha. But look at One Man Drinking Games, The Last Something That Meant Anything At All, I'd Hate To Be You, and You Be The Anchor. Great songs, and not all super fast and stuff. Ever since Anywhere But Here it all seems fast or acoustic...
Anywhere But Here had Still Breathing and Save Your Heart, they were kind of pseudo ballads (Bruised And Scarred also kinda counts). And then there's The Memory and I Swear This Time I Mean it.
Now, if we're speaking in terms of Pop-Punk, ABH was a very slow album overall (particularly Kids In Love).
If not (which you may have already), I can't say I agree with you. I see the two new songs as a bridge between both ABH and ALIR.
I for one, am not impressed with these lyrics at all, but I'm at least not disappointed like I was with ABH (at least this has honesty). But I don't care just for lyrics, I care for the songs themselves.
Also, Jason wasn't the only one who wrote. Derek wrote You Be The Anchor and Champagne, as Jake to 3 Cheers.
@OhHopeh I think their just trying to find their personal sound. They aren't a huge band that a lot know of so they don't have a very signature sound yet. Theyre playing to find it and i am personally liking it. Because this shows how diverse they are. I agree that the lyrics for their newer music doen't flow as well as their first stuff did, but it's still good. Just a challenge to dicover the meaning to the songs.
The vocals have always been amazing, but this song is like 324889742x's improved. Definitely getting back to the "A Lesson in Romantics" feeel. I love it<3333

@GoodnightMoon215 I'm pretty sure Brooks is in the picture. I had noticed that before, but I think that's just how the picture ended up looking
