Magnificent! I've always imagined a dramatic narrative underlying the structure and virtuoso demands of this movement. Misto plays with great passion, precision, and intensity.
he plays this suite a little fast in my own PERSONAL!!!!! opinion. but Bach can be played as fast or as slow as someone wants...its how the player expresses them self in the music that makes it unique. two thumbs up!
Actually this is one of the slowest interpretations I have listened to. Listen to Maisky, Ma, Du Pre, etc. They thake this movement much MUCH faster. Rostropovich is a genuine Bachian.
I hope you did not mean anything 'mean' by saying that but your comment was insensitive. Also for the above comment, Bach is one of Rostropovich's greatest suit as well as one interpretation that will last for quite a long time (in my opinion). I admit I do not like the sound of his Duport cello compared to, for instance, the Davidov, but the depth of his interpretation is sublime. Bach clearly reveals his Russian style of playing mixed with baroque performance as he see fit.
you people are both stupid. he's just saying its funny to see someone so old play a piece with such power. if someone that was 20 did a double backflip, it would be cool. but if someone who was 90 did a double backflip it would be even better cuz its not something you see all day. so dont criticize people for their opinions...douchebags
Slava! You were my favorite cellist. Why did you have to go and die? Too bad there's no such thing as a heaven. You, Jacqueline and Pablo would make quite an amazing trio. When Yo-Yo gets there, you could have an incredible quartet.
i love his face while he plays. looks like...oh wait. just came to a part where it shows a music stand. he's looking at music. :-/

just look at the bowing technique. that's the really difficult part of this piece

I was thinking of playing this suite on my bass for a degree recital one of these days...but this movement alone would be suicide.

I play a lot of this piece on saxophone, and movements 1, 2, 4, and 5 at least all sound great. I'm sure bass could do even better.

Wow. I had a little sax last quarter as part of my Music Ed. Degree, and it would be crazy hard. Props, man.

@OpenCadence78 Me too! Do you play them on alto sax?

@RoseBlackWarlock Tenor, actually. It's more cello-like

wow, I had put this in my playlist for music while studying, but once he started playing I could do nothing but listen.

Brilliant!! So reserved and dignified. But it does annoy me how much he accents the first chord - almost sfz.

Bach was not Rostropovich's strong suit.

It's kind of funny to see such a tired, old looking man play this piece so well!

If you had some culture you would know that age doesn't matters.
