yes, it is the same ending, but it makes kind of more sense in the movie because of where they take the character of Jean Baptise: at the end he decides to "kill himself" because people, and love literally disgust him, not because he wishes he had it like in the movie. Grenouille is genuinley evil in the book, and Laura's character is infinitely smaller. So they both had their pros and cons
