yeah your initial response was correct but once its obvious that your going to spin you should cut the wheel the other way your front tires were perpendicular to their direction of travel causing them to dig and all the force went above the point of friction (i.e. where the rubber meets the dirt). glad your ok, really gotta know what to do if your going to be on the track though
Even though I have never done an autocross or a track day, I have had an instance where my Subaru Outback started to spin. I was turning left, felt the rear-end start to spin, then I immediately countersteered, turning the wheel at least 180 degrees when my Subaru went over a patch of mud on a mountain pass. The countersteer was perfect, and I was fine.
Even an overconfident fool like me has a better reaction. Or perhaps the guy got unlucky or something...
What happened here? I'm probably completely wrong but it looks like he got into the apex a little early and maybe lifted out of the throttle to correct it. I'm glad that he got a new car. And I'm glad that he's still tracking his cars. Where's his webpage?
Dude if u look at his hands when the back end of the car begins to step out, he does nothing... He has such a delayed reaction that he could have easily saved it. Not to take anything away from the guy of course and i am glad that he is okay but he could have saved some money if he had quicker hands. Nothing teaches u better than racing go-karts. :)
I was looking to see if anyone had the same thought and you hit the nail on the head. Racing go karts and getting a dirt bike side ways will teach you. It's tough for the teacher in the passenger seat to put this into words that can help, he just needs the experience.
I am glad that he is ok because he could still say "Fuck". His insurance company will most likely pay for this and hope we can see him driving a new STI in YOUTUBE sometime soon.
@vincent82123 Actually, I'm not sure where Lime Rock Park is, so depending on his state/insurance company, chances are they won't insure him since he's on the track. :) I could be wrong, but I know that's how it is here in Pennsylvania.
Ah that one hits home for me because I also have a nearly stock legacy and it really puts it into perspective how easy it is to lose it, and I've shouted those words after hearing crumpling metal a few times before also.
Fuck! Quite! So easy to roll once sideways on grass. Interesting interior shot showing how much roof caves in from inside. At least they were uninjured.

Yeah he replaced the Legacy GT with another Legacy GT which he still has. I believe he also has a CTS-V now too.

@vincent82123 I don't think his insurance will pay. Why should they?

I'm sure - he was driving his own car, and it was totalled.

I am really sorry and i'm glad no one was hurt.
But i have to say that this video is one of the funniest i've ever seen.
Having the explitive shouted right when the heads go down - for some reason it makes me laugh every time.
Again, i am sorry.
