@999grime After RD and PF he went down, he doesnt write his original scripts anymore, same 70's references from Anime to western to kun fu b movies,the lack of original scores, again after RD and PF he doesnt out the same efforts on shot design and if you packaged his "vision" as something cool...there will tons of peeps swallowing his "craft" instead of enjoying a piece of art, or you have to deal with people that feel offended because someone criticized their hero.

Overhyping is to beleive that he has done some unique creation and blow it out proportion. he hasnt created anything new if he's ALWAYS borrowing references and paying "Homages" to his heroes, that's not creative at all. The only credit that ill give him for ING BAST is to be able to save MIRAMAX from total bankrupty. Anyway, thats my two cents. Cheers.

The narrative and character development complement each other perfectly, the photography in each scene is beautiful, the acting is the best you're likely to find anywhere. Not to mention innovative. Prior to the Godfather, gangster films where nothing like they are now. Without Godfather, you'd never have Goodfellas, for example.

@skydark I thought it was a little. I mean sure it was an inspiration for many films, although it was slow and took me a while too get into it. Maybe if i watch it again i'll think otherwise. I enjoyed the last 1.5hrs a lot and there were some good scenes towards the start but i just don't think it's the best ever. Goodfellas was much better imo

@Paperbagman555 You're too used to the frenetic pace of modern films. I like films that allow the pictures to work on you. A more recent example of that is "There will be blood" which takes its time and works brilliantly.

Then you have a lot of great, older ones, from Hitchcock, Wilder, Huston, Welles, Kurosawa, Chaplin, etc...

@skydark Hey i like lots of old films, especially Hitchcock's rear window. John Ford, Welles etc. But i just didn't think it was that great. In fact i thought the 70s decade was one of the best. I still need to see There Will Be Blood, i keep hearing that Daniel Day Lewis is the best actor since Brando.

PF is tough to place on a list. It is one of the best movies made since the 70's, but it isn't all Gangster. It's a better overall film than it is a gangster film.
