i like your version of this classic,i play alot of pink floyd, but not so much yhe old stuff, you have enspired me to go back in time so thankyou, keep up the good work m8
Real nice playing. But say, could you position the camera a bit higher, and rotated about 30 degrees to your right. It would be nice to actually get a clear look at the fretboard while your playing. Does anybody preview their video before posting, and ask themself a simple question: Could I Improve this in any way before sharing it with the unwashed masses out there in the happy interwebs... Yes, move my camera, so they can see what my little fingers are doing, not look at the back of my hand.
@adamsmithwastheman This video was in the days where I was trying to show the right and left hand. It's not really possible in one shot. These days I go straight on, camera at head height and don't cut my head off. It comes down to audience (yes I think about my videos ;)). The majority of my audience aren't really interested in learning the piece, they just want to hear some bloke playing guitar. Those who do want to learn it, use the tab - the video is not *really* useful to them.
@adamsmithwastheman If you have the TABs in front of you... you can see the fingerings well enough to see how he is jumping from chord to chord (I often find my self reading TABs and thinking HOW DOES HE DO THAT?!!?) This video is more than enough to show you what you aren't getting from the TABs.
Jawmunji: With your TABs & video I was able to get the GBBS part of this arrangement 80% down in just under an hour. But bed was calling me. Another hour and I'll be playing along with the Video!
Thanks for teaching me how to play this. I already knew how to play 'Is There Anybody Out There' but now I can really impress my friends.
I want to play more songs in this fingerstyle of yours, and been watching some of your video's but most of them are just to hard for me (been playing for a 1,5 years) got any recommendations?
@TheSadHappyGuy No worries SD! Next one to play is Here Comes the Sun. If you don't have a capo, play it in the open position. When you've mastered that, come see me :)
WOW! ive been playing for about a year and constantly improving and for my level of experience i thought I was good at "is there anybody out there" but after watching this makes my look terrible! thanks for giving me the inspiration to try harder and strive for perfection!! being a newbie i really needed it!
I watched this three years ago. I can finally play a fluid version of this. Not as demanding as your's, but this was the original version that inspired me!
Great ! One of my favorite piece of music ever :-) !! A real soul feeling in the way you play it !! Thanks for sharing and it helps a lot for people who try to play as well as you do ;-) !
Ah man! I remember watching this some years ago thinking "OH MY GOD!". Today I am a fairly good guitar player and I thank you, jawmunji, for being one of my inspirations. Again, thank you! :D
@Typoopie That's the sort of comment that makes it all worthwhile. I love playing the guitar, and I love to share my love for playing the guitar - so when I hear that I've helped in some way for someone else - well, it makes it all worthwhile :)
OMG!!! that was amazing i just started playing a month ago and learned both songs but only fingerpick goodbye blue sky i wish i could play that as good as you that was amazing you rock... and GO PINK FLOYD!!!! (bye the way im only 12)
i can't thank you enough for sharing the tabs, your amazing. I am a mid-life crisis guitar player from Florida into the classic rock and your really good.
Not bad. I used to fingerpick Is There Anybody Out there, but I think it sounds even better just picked (yes, I know it's not picked by Gilmour - but try it and see if it doesn't sound GREAT). Also, you're missing some slides and vibratos there, but not a huge deal, really. Overall, thumbs up.
Hrmm, I might just string up a guitar and post a video reply. Up to you.
@brautigan1 Flatpick on a steelstring usually does sound better, but it's a painful process flatpicking something like this, I even found hybrid picking a bit annoying. Yep, I never realised there were slides in there when I was transcribing this, and I've never bothered to re-learn it since.

Hey, just wanted to say thank you ! I was strictly a pick-using guitarist ,couldn't finger-pick if my life depended on it , but your videos inspired me to start learning . Hopefully one day I'll be as good as you ! haha thanks again man and keep those videos coming!
@khalid7377 You know I tried for years to play with a flat plectrum, I never could work out hold to hold those little buggers :) But since I started out having classical style forced into me, I guess you can't help but fall back onto what you started with.
Besides - you have 4 if not 5 individual picks on the ends of your fingers - imagine how much more you could do with them than just the one! :)
Glad to hear I've helped you on the fingestyle path - it's a good other skill to have.
May I please say that was absolutely brilliant. I've been working on this song for quite some time. I still haven't got it just yet. Yes! This is the best version I've seen on Youtube yet. Great job!

Just wanted to say thanks, again. I've been using your tab and posted YouTube video and have pretty much nailed the 2nd half (ITAOT) and am about halfway to mastering Goodbye Blue Sky. Really like the arrangements and, hopefully (as in "full of hope" rather than "snowball's chance in Hades") someday you'll get time to finish of the fantastic version of Breath/Time that you're playing with. Another one that has a lot of potential is "Lost For Words", though it's mainly piano after the intro
@WormOfTheWorld : also wanted to mention that in the last measure of ITAOT if you really hammer the 12th fret high E as a ringing harmonic and THEN play the D-form strum over it, it sounds v. good. So does playing the D-form inverted first to create dissonance and added resolution at the end
I was remembered the liner notes from the booklet and remembered David being quoted on this song on the book "Saucerful of Secrets" but, yeah, Wikipedia helps me out when I'm too lazy to look for the page.
@jawmunji This is incredible. How long did it take you to learn this? I am just starting to learn guitar and if I could learn this song I would be the happiest person on earth.
Unfortunately "How long did it take you to learn this?" has no answer. One answer could be 1 week. Another answer could be 25 years. Unfortunately "How long did it take you to learn this?" has no answer. One answer could be 1 week. Another answer could be 25 years. See, the problem is that you need the first 25 years to be able to learn it in one week. Even for a beginner; some could go from newbie to playing this in a month, if they had say a piano or violin background. Some could take 25 years...
Did that make any sense? ;)
