  • great work !! can you please explain the settings in your camera in detail? Was that the effect of slow shutter speed in timelapse after 0.40 secs in clip # V09880a ?

  • @sanlenses Thanks for checking it out! The 2nd and 3rd clips (a and b) are actually made from V09880, using proprietary compositing techniques I developed myself. I've seen others get similar results with effects called "video echo" for fading trails like V09880a, and "image stacking" for continuous (no decay) trails like V09880b. Camera settings used for filming the stars are fairly typical; 5-10 sec shutter, high ISO(2000-4000), max aperature, tripod+intervalometer.. Cheers! :-)

  • What lens did you use

  • @Geezuz96 This was shot with the stock 18-55mm VR lens that comes with the camera/lens kit. It has decent wide angle coverage and image quality :-)

  • Great Job...

  • @armanixtreme Thanks so much for stopping by! =)

  • how long did it takes dude ?

  • @KugatsuNoYuki The total recording time for the first clip was about 3 hours. The second anf third clips were made from the first one using various compositing techniques :-) Thanks for checking it out!

  • That's COOL! fk you!! XD

  • Wow! You even caught some shooting stars!

  • @SoUtterlyIrrelevant Thanks so much - glad you enjoyed! =)

  • @SoUtterlyIrrelevant those are not shooting stars. They are most likely the ISS or satellites.

  • There were four artificial satellites, no shooting stars.

  • You did a great job !!

  • my new cam!

  • is it true using d5100?, how do you film it?

  • @xCorruptionEffectx This video is made by taking a LOT of still images (long exposure) one after the other and then making those into video. I used an intervalometer (you can buy them on Amazon) to automatically take the pictures :-) The trails are made using a proprietary technique I developed myself. Cheers!

  • @JcmdiStockFootage Doesn't the D5100 have a intervalometer built into it?

  • @tmick990990 Yes, it does - but after a number of attempts to use it, I found that it would only take a few hundred images before the camera shut down on its own. Plenty of battery life left, all auto-off timers disabled, and still it wouldn't run for more than 30 minutes or so. However, an external shutter trigger/timer (intervalometer) worked just great (for several hours+) and was easier to use/program as well. Problem solved =) Cheers!

  • @JcmdiStockFootage thats cool thanks for the info!

  • @JcmdiStockFootage You have to set a short timer for your screen(it consumes a lot of battery life), go to Custom Setting Menu>Timers/AE lock>Auto Off timers> Custom..

I am using the same camera and I did a Timelapse of 3hours with the built-in intervalometer! so it's not really about your battery..

  • @PhotoEasel Thanks for the tip - I'll look in to that. :-) There's got to be some simple dumb thing causing this, and I would like to get it working in addition to the external one. I was already pretty sure it wasn't the battery, since even after several surprise shut-downs (roughly 30 minutes/300 frames) I could still power it right back up and try again, over and over with the battery still showing plenty of charge. Hmmm frustrating! XD

  • hi, would you give me a specific info of the video, thanks. in which mode did you record this video. I got the same camera but, when i try to do a video, always appear with a lot of noise. Thanks . i need some help

  • @sebhch244 The settings,i mean.

  • This was an early test sequence - made from individual still frames rather than live video. I think I used ISO 4000, f3.5, and a 5 to 7 second exposure per frame... If you're getting a lot of noise, try using a lower ISO and longer exposure time per frame...

  • I especially like a and b, where each star appears to become a comet ... and then thought, what if we could see a sky filled with comets like this, that would be amazing to behold!

  • It would certainly be a cool lightshow, but I might be a little concerned about them landing on us, too! XD

  • you have a good new Nikon.camera

  • Glad you enjoyed - thanks for watching =)

  • Nice to have a selection to choose from :-) Glad you enjoyed that one!

  • Excellent!

  • Thanks so much =) Cheers!

  • instruments?

  • Filmed with a Nikon D5100... The music is "St. Thomas" from the "TimeShift" CD by Technician (yours truly). :-)

  • GREAT!

  • Thanks for checking it out! =)

  • yeah, awesome :-)

  • Thanks so much! -)

  • Beautiful! Interesting footage!

  • I'm happy you liked it! Thanks so much for watching =)

  • This should be a live wallpaper.

  • @BlakeOBrien1 Sorry I did not disturb you if you have Windows then your dreams can comes true...search only for the "dreamscene" tool

  • It would be nice to be able to easily convert video to a "live action" screen saver or wallpaper, but I haven't found an easy way to do it yet... Thanks for checking it out! :-)

  • Love the quantum leaps :-)

  • I thought that might make an interesting progression.... Thanks so much for watching! =)

  • Really Interesting JC!!!

    ...Jimmy...

  • The sky can be pretty amazing sometimes - especially with a few photographic tricks :-)

  • Amazing JC, excellent.

  • Thanks so much! =)
