  • try toothpaste for the final polish

  • @fragged8

Thanks, I'll try that myself when I get chance ;-)

  • will this method work on clear acrylic and leave no visible marks so it's 100% seethrough?

  • @relativityparadox

It depends. The people that make aeroplane canopies for fighter planes use this method, so it is possible to remove the majority of the scratch with no visible marks, but it is best to test it first if possible

  • Hi Good video, I use brasso metal polish for the shine, both in liquid & wadding form works really well.

    Thom in Scotland.

  • @fuelban

    I'll try that next time.

    Thanks for the comment

  • what is name of the last polish you use?

  • @spike378

I used autosol, but any silver polish works well

  • why is it pink?

  • @MoneyFukinMike

    Because it is pink perspex

  • @ultimatehandyman still lost lol does it have a pink paper on the other side or its painted?

  • @MoneyFukinMike

It is made in that colour. You can buy Perspex in almost any colour you like from the right outlet. Many of the DIY stores only sell clear but it is available in hundreds of colours.

  • @ultimatehandyman awesome

  • @ultimatehandyman went to homedepot and they didnt have those polishers where do you get them

  • @MoneyFukinMike

I think I bought mine off ebay. If you search ebay for "metal polishing kit" you should find them.

    Thanks for the comments

  • Just what I needed. Thanks mate! :)

  • @trinisty

    You are welcome.

    Thanks for the comment

  • Would this work on a red chipboard TV unit coated in acrylic paint?

  • @MediumRob

    I doubt it very much

  • Any ASMR triggers here?

  • @TheDraindeimo

I had to Google ASMR triggers as I have never heard of it before.

It's just my droll Lancashire accent I am afraid, no triggers ;-)

  • @ultimatehandyman Well your voice triggered mine, and ive directed thousands of people in the ASMR community towards this video, we praactically hunt for videos like this.

  • @TheDraindeimo

I'll Google it again when I have some free time and check it out properly.

    Thanks for the comments!

  • I just got a all Plexiglas speaker box and it got scratched on the top. Following the instruction in the video should remove the scratches right? and will the metal polish make it see through again?

  • @coolbeanzs

It should work, for the final polish most manufacturers recommend silver polish

  • @ultimatehandyman Alrighty, Much appreciated.

  • @coolbeanzs

    Thanks for the comments ;-)

  • Would this work on a acrylic fish tank? I need to remove a lot of scratches and nova would cost a lot of money because its a big tank. Do you think this method would work or would that rubbing compound or polish leave the acrylic cloudy and not clear?

  • @SuperWaterfowler10

It should work. For the last polish use silver polish as it is recommended for Acrylic.

They often use this technique to polish out scratches on some aeroplane cockpit canopies.

  • Great videos man. The most useful info i found for working with acrylic..

    Much much appreciated..Thanks man..

  • @knownuser09

    You are welcome.

    Thanks for the comment!

  • Hi there. Good to see these tips, really hoping that they work for me.

I have 8 pieces of large, clear perspex(275x275x10mm each) of which need to be *spotless*. They are covered in deep scratches as they are used as a part of a stage people have stepped on for 12 years now.

Would this be the best method to use, or am I best off looking into other methods?

    Thanks if anyone can reply,

    - Brittany

  • @BrixXSM

If there are lots of scratches and they are deep, you can use an orbital sander.

You can start of with 60 grade aluminium oxide paper and sand the whole lot, which will dullen the surface, but should remove the scratches. Then attach some 600 grade wet and dry paper to the machine and wet the paper slightly, give it a good sand with that and then switch to 1200 grade wet and dry and repeat. Then polish it with a polishing mop using rubbing compound, then use silver polish.

  • thank you for sharing this video. I have started working with small projects and this has been of tremendous value. thanks again

  • @2002Framer

    You are welcome.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • @poppoptoptop

It depends what the worktop is made from. In some cases there is not much you can do!

  • Hello,

Thank you for taking time to show us how to remove the scratches. I will do it for my acrylic fish tank. I understand most except the name of the polishing cream. Could you response with the name of the polishing cream?

    Thanks

  • @poppoptoptop

I used a product called autosol, but any metal polish should work, especially silver polish.

  • Will this work on the plastic panels on a motorcycle?

  • @ticker64

I have no idea what bike panels are made from, but I am pretty sure that it is not acrylic and so I doubt it!

  • You're right it's a softish flexible plastic. Thanks anyway

  • @ticker64

    No problem, you are welcome!

  • will it works on my macbook white unibody ?

  • @setanjaringan

It will work on most plastics that have a gloss finish, but not on all plastics. I'm not sure what the macbook's are made from?

  • hi. do dis work for plexiglass

  • @masakreable

Yes, it will work on any make of Acrylic.

  • hi

can i use this method on an acrylic fish tank?

  • @xxjustin23xx

Yes, it will work on any acrylic as long as it is not optical, such as for spectacle lenses. The canopies for the eurofighter are made from acrylic and if they get a scratch on the canopy they just polish it out. I'm a little concerned that if used on the inside of the tank that the metal polish might be toxic to the fish and so you would have to ensure that any metal polish residue was cleaned from the inside of the tank before refilling.

  • what was the last compound that you used? is it possible to use a scratch remover in place?

  • @ KillaHitman

The last compound was a metal polish called autosol. Any silver polish should work for the final polish.

  • ahhh k thanks

  • Can you do this on clear perspex?

  • @ SuperMonty1966

Yes, but you should avoid doing it on optical lenses such as in spectacles etc.
