@64jey "USSR HAD NO FREEDOM!!!",.U say!! I know they never had the FREEDOM 2B homeless, like millions of Americans & Canadians. U would not catch them living like "Rats" in the streets, trying to find a grate, with warm air, so as not to freeze to death. They didn't use the freedom to kill one another, for their clothing.
They lost over 25,000,000, so U could join the War after it was over, that is WW1, also.
U guys were first in on Iraq, like a bully! But the "bully" is taking it on the chin!
mcdonalds hamburgers are washington bullets in disguise ,there aimed at your kids and its time you did something about it. i say boycott big business and deny power to the capitalists!!!!
Probably my favorite Clash song... for those of you saying it was a "pro-Communist" song listen again... they slam the USSR and China as being the same as the US in the last verse. It's really an anti-imperialist, pro- Democratic Socialism song if anything.
The CLASH had a leftist agenda but if you listen carefully they do play on both sides. For example, Rock the Casbah is against Muslim extremist. They were way ahead of their time.
I agree with Parker 9977, this is one of the greatest songs ever written!
64jey, you are so wrong -- this song is not about communism, it is about the way that the United States tries to impose their ideals on countries around the world by force. Hence the name, "Washington Bullets."
@64jey ..So, you hate Communism!! Did you ever live it? You probably hate it because that is exactly what you have been PROGRAMMED to do.
Yes I know, you are going to deny it. The vast majority who have been programmed, by the REAL EVIL of the world, of course don't know it! U R so busy HATING, there is not much time for anything else. 007, Rockey, Red Dawn, etc. (Bullshit) from Hollywood, has done it's job!
The USSR had no homeless, no unemployment, no welfare, HAD, COMPLETE FREE HEALTH CARE +
@64jey I just wrote, a moment ago, when I thought U R American, U think like one. That is, 1 of the dumb 1's, not the many who know, who is Evil & who is not.
Stopping your (&many others), "Hate" for the Russian People & Communism, is like trying to console me, as a child, who was afraid of the dark & the "Boogie Man"!!
No one could convince me there was no reason to be afraid.
Like I said YR so full of "Shit", Hollywood spewed all over the world, UR not responsible! Yah, tot U was American!
@hanksnow2 ..wake up little baby....the fairy story is over......and, as I told you, you can't understand....you're american.....wake up, is never too late little baby!!
@64jey ..."September 11, 1973. Never forget." & "is never too late"!
Your the 1 who wrote "Is never too late". I believe you r only a kid, & not really re-educated yet. U C, it is too late for the world to stand up to the "Terrorizing Bullies", of USA & Israel.
They over threw, the democratically elected Gov. of Chile, Murdered their Prime Minister. They then installed one of the most Brutal Dictators ever & for over 30 yrs. decent people paid the supreme price! Too late!!!, I guess so, D/F

@hanksnow2 I'm Chilean. I'm Democratic Socialist (a true one, not like the sold out Socialist Party). I'm son of fighters for democracy against the fascist Pinochet's dictatorship. But come on, USSR HAD NO FREEDOM. When the people in Praga Spring fought for their freedom under the flag of the then-communist leader Alexander Dubcek the Breshnev's imperialist red bear fucked up Czechoslovakia in a bloody way. That's not self-determination of the people, neither freedom nor equality of nations.
@parrasalazar Hi, glad 2 C UR Socialist & a true 1. U may not know it but, the wheels of the "Evil Empire", are working against U every second of every day. & that is not Russia or Chine, N/Korea, Iran or Cuba, it's the USA!
kissinger & Nixon gave U Pinochet!
I C you're only 19 & it makes me wonder, who wrote your school books. The US has 700+ military basses in the world, & they wish to inform those countries, that they R there to help U. If they R successful, U believe them @ your demise.
@hanksnow2 Please, dont misunderstand me. I hate USA goverment, I hate zionism, I hate neo-liberalism, etc. But we can't be blind, USSR was bad too. I mean, Lennin's USSR was fine, but Breshnev's and Stalin Soviet Nation was simply awful. Breshnev led the troops for the invasion of afghanistan, murdered many democratic socialist from Czechoslovakia, refused to send weapons for the defense of Unidad Popular goverment.Stalin stole resources from other countries, killed the peasant class, etc.
@parrasalazar Finally...I'm not saying that USA is the land of freedom and the saviors of the world, I'm just saying that the Soviet Union became exactly the thing they refused, a great red empire -the "other" empire. I'm not saying nothing new, is exactly what the lyrics of this song said many decades ago. We must win against the capitalism, but there are other ways (the praga spring tried other, my country tried other and Venezuela, Bolivia and Ecuador are trying the same one).
Curioso. :)
Strange? Huh. Reagan mined the harbors, blew up the food silos, killed teachers and doctors, financed the contras with money from Iran and allowing the smuggling of crack into the US.
And what did democracy bring: Thousands of young prostitutes, kids sniffing glue in plain daylight, half of all kids without an education, poor people dying of a broken appendix, thousands of children forever damaged by hunger.
Pottery Barn ruples apparently dont apply to the gringos.
Strange? Only your historical distortion. In fact, the Sandinistas won the first honest elections in Nicaragua's history, in 1984.
It took six more years of U.S.-financed and -directed terrorism for the Nicaraguan people (reluctantly, I think) agree to let Uncle Sam have his way, if only he would stop torturing them.
the clash fue una banda punk de los 70's q con su album sandinista! expresa sus ideas politicas en la cual la cancion washington bullets habla de los paises latinos en dicatudura como chile, nicaragua y cuba y de lo q ue pasa en china y afganistan!
Weather you are right or left wing,or if they were rigt or wrong, one must agree that what the Nicaraguan people did was an incredible feat and example of what a nation acting as one can overcome. These people fought with .22 caliber hand guns and rocks. Then again, they ousted filibusterer Gen. William Walker with nearly their bear hands. I wonder if this country will ever see the sunshine.
If anyone - any people - on earth really deserves to be happy, it is the nicas. I have an enormous respect for the people of that country: They never deserved becoming a straw man for amerikkan macho attitudes.
They didnt deserve to have their ports mined, their teachers and doctors shot, their young people suffering in the mountains - just so that the elite could import campbells tomato soup again.
But - in spite of all the hardships - it was an amazing time.
As my name here says, I was - actually still am - a sandinista. This song helped cheer me up when things were at their hardest. It helped me remember, that millions of people outside the country were on our side.
you are very lucky to actually be learning about that in a history class. usually teachers and text books tend to stray away from government curruption and the horroes brought on by such curruption.
Well I am from Nicaragua and was born in 79 when the Sandinista government took over. My mother and I had to flee the country because of political persecusion in 88. I tell you life in that country was tough. Don't know how it is now that Ortega is back in power though.
Im from Argentina, and I have to say that this song thrills me a lot. We didn't have a revolution like in Nicaragua... But we had a fucking and brutal dictatorship where a lot of people died without a real reason in the seventy, later the fucking wad with Malvinas/Falklands Islands... How many lifes has been smashed in South America, and all over the world in this years?
"How many lifes has been smashed in South America, and all over the world in this years?"
We might have a number for it, but we lack the understanding on just how huge thet number is when you are taking about human lives. One of my best friends is originally from Argentina, her family had to flee to Sweden in 1979 because her mother was in the trade union. What happened then is not forgotten.
I have a color variation of the poster seen at (2:51) in my room and have had it for years now. It's kind of messed up to so I've been looking for a copy to replace it with.
