do your rings have a right way up? The reason I ask is that last winter I put new rings on mine. After that it smoked almost as bad as it did with the worn rings. My mate pointed out that the rings are stamped with a number and that should be the upper side of the ring as they have a bevel on one side. It appeared I had put all the rings on upside down, Flipping them over fixed the smoking.
Yes piston rings always have a right way up, the "top" stamp wears off very quickly though, and you need to mark them or remember they way they came off.
use a dvd marker pen or similar and colour the top of the ring they should also be put in the land (groove) they came out of.
Another great vid! Many useful tips on a single episode. I'm surprised your oil rings are that worn and I don't see much smoke from your exhaust in your travelling shots. Will you start showing oil smoke from the exhaust as the rings wear out further or will you just consume more oil and have to top up the oil tank more often? Thanks for the great work/tips/vids/editing. You may want to keep all old parts and tools for the possible future Lunmad Musuem.

I changed the rings about 7000miles ago, they gapped about 14+thou in the old bore,
the old rings gapped at nearly 40thou :-O
at the time It never showed much but used loads about a quart for every 300 miles
It uses next to none now.
I never throw out away me! still got all the old stuff, including three clutches and loads of plates
Why do I keep it?.......just in case ,-D
