I had the pleasure of meeting this fellow at Lake Sugar Tree MX track in Axton Va in the late 70's he was a stand up fellow never to busy to talk to anyone he loved his audience and the moto-X community loved him! R.I.P Doug!
balls! I have his book, it's really nice, and the cheezy factor aint Doug's fault, this show " that's incredible" was such a piece of shit...i went on a jr. high field trip to watch a taping of it.
I just watched again and couldn't help but ad more to my previous comment. Coming down the hill he "suddenly" runs into 2 car obstacles, LOL. The 2nd is my favorite, ala CHiPs special effects, ramp almost out of screen, but not quite, LOL. Don't get me wrong, he was the KING :). Just a little cheesy with the 2 car set up coming back down.
I remember the guy you are talking about. I also grew up in san francisco. The guys name was Rick Figari. he was friends with my neighbor. He did amazing things on a yamaha and a honda, (actually any bike). one of the best i ever saw. Back then, nobody was doing wheelies like that.
Doug was a great guy, a good friend for over twenty years who died in a fatal ultralight accident a few years ago. He never had to practice his wheelies. Doug just did it. He had a real gift. Those who knew him really miss him.
Thats the pioneer of bike stunts today, :) Deffently set a new era of limits for bikes. even to this day there still is people that are pros that cant beat him
Everyone in the audience died of carbon monoxide shortly after... :]

That's weird that he ran a motor on his front wheel to keep it spinning all the time. Cool video.
KDXRIPPER 2 years ago
When the front whel spins it has more of a gyroscopic effect. It makes it easier to steer basically.
