I imagined my first time as this song portrayed it. Might be only 18, but I've been a fan of Meatloaf since I was 8 months old. Mom used to put me to sleep listening to it. :)
Wow all the young folks lamenting about this song. My memory of this tune is playing it in an 8-track through an unbelievable 45 watts of mind-blowing 2 channel stereo. Seriously if you are young (under 45) and loving this, just go with it.
I'm portuguese and I'm 18 years old and I feel ashamed, like SilverDog237 said, to be a part of this generation, they (young people) don't know meatloaf, they don't know a single music and they think that this kind of music is old people's music, I feel really ashamed.
I admit even though I knew of him I didn't really know his music but last night I saw the movie based on his life and I recognized a lot of songs, I just hadn't known they were his. I love his music!
great song. saw the video when i was strictly into metal music. amazing lyrics, outstanding voices and stage presence. too much hating in the comments. just enjoy.
The artist is so full of his own ego he has to brag about fucking a girl in school. Big freaking deal lol. It's still a good song musically in some ways.
I guess you would have to be in High School in the late 70's and own a 57 Chevy to really appreciate this tune. Maybe ask your gramps about it. BTW this video is from the 1980"s and eventhough Karla DiVito did not do the album track, she's did the video quite kewl.
whitch generation? The meatloaf geeration or the generation that doesnt know Meatloaf,Im hoping that youre talking about the generation that doesnt know who meatloaf Is.lf you crank this tune up in front of someone that dont know meatloaf they will never forget him..lol
I love this song i use to blast it in the car when i was 14 when me and my boyfriend were driving in his car ahhhh good times (even though it was only 2 years ago lol)
I love this song. My daughter's and I did this at my oldest daughter's talent show, and won big time. I played him and my youngest did "backup" and my oldest played Patti. I'm glad my kids appreciate the BEST music...but making it fun like that and laughing our butts off gave them good memories to good music. They love Meatloaf to this day.
I will ALWAYS love Meatloaf&especially this song...lol,I coincedentally lost my virginity to this song when I was 15...&didn't make the poor guy marry me,hehehe...just love Meatloaf&have told this to Vince Neil&Tracii guns when I dated them-even they agree he's a LEGEND! So he has the respect of other rockstars as well as millions of people like us...haters can go listen to their awful cRap&Justin Beiber/Michael Buble,etc.-pfft.
Lots of good rock and roll out there...but this one has to be in my top ten. Not so much the lyrics, but the music iteself and the energy put into it's performance. Was always a great dance tune late in the evening at our fraternity...along with some fun girls of various sororities....along with them joining in for the ladies part!!! Good times...
@smoothpipes54 I have amazing memories of this one as well...hehe,lost my virginity as it played in the background when I was 15;difference is that I didn't make him''STOP RIGHT THERE!!!''or marry me,haa! That's awesome that you used to sing this@yr.frat house w/chicks joining in for the girls parts-love that! Isn't it cool how so many ppl.of a certain age/generation all know every word to this classic and fabulicious song?-xxx
@mowntainmancr Haahaahaaa-awesome. I was,too...but didn't force him to say that or marry me,lol...glad I didn't,as girls can end up miserably married as well!
My god! I haven't heard this song in ages! It throws me back to a time in Amsterdam, just when Meatloaf was huge! What a great - GREAT! - performance!!!
To all you who make fun of Meatloafs looks check this out
1- He is a rock star so he got more pussy then you could imagine
2- he laughed his way all the way to the bank
3- He is a musical master
3 things You little punks will never achieve. Go listen to your cRap and we will continue to listen to true music and Meatloaf and the rest of us will forever be better then you.
@ChrisNukemYJ GREAT comeback...haahaahaahaa!!! That's right-tell'em,those cRap listenin'jackasses w/no taste&their retarded jeans hanging down around their knees...<3 to you!!-xxx&Meatloaf DOES so rock...:D
@ChrisNukemYJ Rap is fine too, all genres have good and bad, no point to disregard an entire genre because of ONE song you found unattractive. It would be like me saying fuck country because I don't like Dolly Parton. Makes little sense to me.
@SamuraiZach0 Who said my opinion is based on 1 song? Don't assume things cuz it make an ass outta you. Rapper do nothing but help promote violence, drug use and thing of the sort. You don't see that poor car someone ruined by making it a lowrider blasting Dolly Parton while they are doing a drive by.
And since when did it become cool to be a gangster. The real mobsters never aspired to be the gangster they wanted to be the guy controlling the gangster.
I liked your 'top comment', but now you're just acting like ass.
And since when do you give a fuck about how someone wears their pants or messes with their car?
And you clearly are talking out of your ass when it comes to rap. I can say this with absolute certainty, because your statement about violence/drug use is simply wrong.
Stereotyping an entire genre/culture/etc is simply a way of trying to fool yourself into believing that you actualy know something.
@ChrisNukemYJ Kinda sad you just think of typical stereotypes when you think of a certain type of music. And not all rap is about drugs/violence. You only think of mainstream rap. Other genres of music have also themes like drugs/violence. Just because you have an opinion, doesn't mean it is the truth. You talk about respecting Meat Loaf. Well, maybe you should start by respecting other people and their opinions. Good day, sir!
@ChrisNukemYJ Lol, you should relax; no point getting all worked up over something I said. Perhaps my point flew over your head, that is fine, but as I said don't disregard an entire genre because of an artist you heard promoting drugs, sex and all that, there are plenty of hip hop artists out there who don't ever mention that kind of stuff. Have a nice day.
@ChrisNukemYJ While I agree with you in some aspects, (espessally the 3 reasons) I don't think that he was a genius some much as he was an amazing vocolist. (As I understand it, and I think I might be wrong, he didn't write most of his songs, which to me, makes someone a true musical genius like Buddy Holly and The Beatles.) Also It seems kind of unfare to simply say that rap (as much as I don't like it.) isn't true music. True music is something that speaks to you or truely enjoy.
What i dont get is, if you dislike the video, why listen to it in the first place. Dicks...This guy is one of the best, if not the best artists of all time!
wow... iv been listening to this song over and over for years without knowing who wrote the song, what they looked like, and to be honest.... im surprised
Man...... what a great live performance! Doubt many bands/performers can sing live & sound great at the same time! Epic stuff Meat! Wish I was sitting there watching & listening to this great performance but I was just a little baby....
did you know that Carla did not do the original recording of this song with meatloaf? it was Ellen Foley. she landed a tv role on "night court" and could not do the tour right after the album came out.
Point of fact Jim Steinman did not write all of Mr. Loaf's (Oday) music. I agree he is a great vocalist that will talked about in five hundred years, assuming we still listen to music, A front man with his appearance still popular after 30+ years proves the point. Now lets all shut up and not miss the heavenly glory.
OMG THANK YOU for putting this up! I owned the tape of this concert for so long, but it got damaged before I could transfer to DVD -_- This is literally what my 5 year old self used to sing and dance to. <3
I was in bootcamp, San Diego when this hit the waves. Same month that Pan Am went down right by us. Only flight my step MOM ever missed in well over a decade. Lise, My Sister was there when my Dad hear fher voice/ Two tours in Vietnam as Leader of S.E.A.L. Team 1 and that wasa nothing compared to all of us thinging she was dead. THere were no survivors. hey didn't mean to bum anyone out, rock on, I'm not bummed :P
SEEN THEM IN SAINT JOHN.FUNNY HE KEPT SAYING SAINT JOHNS WHICH IS IN NEWFOUNDLAND.HE WAS BOOED BUT THEN HE CAME TO RELIZE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SAINT JOHN AND SAINT JOHNS NFLD.APPOLIGIZED AND ALL WAS GOOD AMAZING CONCERT GRAET SINGER FOR A MAN WITH ASMA
@surentime Me too! But let's also give Jack Black a lot of credit for being a great performer in his own right! Together he and Kyle Gas make up one of the greatest heavy metal/ rock duos in music history: Tenacious "D"! Long may they reign!
@surentime Every teenager who lost their virginity in the back seat of their Mom's station wagon can thank Meat Loaf for helping them " go all the way tonight ".

Look...Great music doesn't always come from skinny & plastic...

P.S. BEST rock vocalist EVER, matched only by Roger Daltrey. And Townshend wrote everything Daltrey sang. Meatloaf did this himself. Mind-blowing.

@Pr0fessorScience Actually it was Jim Steinman who wrote all of the Meatloaf songs.

I think Jack Black owes a lot to Meatloaf.

@surentime Me too! But let's also give Jack Black a lot of credit for being a great performer in his own right! Together he and Kyle Gas make up one of the greatest heavy metal/ rock duos in music history: Tenacious "D"! Long may they reign!
