  • the oil creates an airtight seal

  • I'll make it real easy for everyone, even after the skewer was poked through both sides of the ballon there was still no hole for the air to release;)

  • The moist of the skewer keeps it air tight so that it does not release the air

  • i want to see something that steve actually thought up originally.. not something from a children's science experiment book

  • Works better with vasaline

  • because I like mento rockets

  • ok this is really completely unrelated only the balloon parts related but in school we blew up six balloon turned over a school tble there really flimsy btw and then one by one we got seven gurls on at one time and six or five lads .... we were only 11 though so we were light som scat shiz though only one ballon popped and then KABOOM!!!

  • The shirt that steves wearing reminds me of steve in minecraft

  • Everyody get down its gonna explode !!!!*_*

  • lame

  • i did this as a science fair project in 7th grade :)

  • because of the rubber

  • You can use Vaseline instead of oil

When you push the skewer in the balloon it creates a hole but when you keep pushing the skewer through the oil covers up the hole

  • nope nope nope if u look closly u can see were its darker there is more rubber and its easier to poke it trough if u poke it on the side

  • i like it

  • is good :)

  • i thought thhe as well as that it wasnt strecthed to the max that the oil acted as a sort of sealent not releasing the air ?

  • this guy is weird.

  • You can also use soap instead of oil.

  • i think that when you twist the skewer it created heat that expanded the rubber.

  • science hahah the bleu letters (sorry that i think of that so late)

  • @kesod1 mainstreet

  • You can also do this by putting a tape on the ballon where you pierce and it wont burst the ballon

  • I think the oil keep the air pressure inside the balloon

  • @SteveSpanglerScience Maybe it's because the top and bottom are the softest part of the balloon and greasing the skewer makes it so the air does not escape from the balloon and deflate it as you push the skewer though the balloon?

  • is that amazing or not

  • I did this for my school talent show and afterwards everyone couldn't explain it so they said "LIAR, YOU JUST PUT THE NEEDLE ON THE OUTSIDE NOT INSIDE, OR ELSE IT WOULD POP!" and I even showed it going IN the balloon -.-

  • HOW THE HELL ON EARTH DO U DO THAT

  • YEAH; NOW I GOT A BALLOON WHIT A SKEWER!

  • I think it's because it's dead...

  • auaaaaaah he has no adult supervision!

    U broke the rules

  • @kesod1 lol u don't! i did it without my mom or dads supervision!

  • When you say blow the ballon up do u mean C4 or TNT??

  • No, I think that the oil seals the hole that the skewer makes allowing it to stay inflated

  • the oil make the hole really really round and not pop? (if the hole not really round it would rip the ballon apart ?)

  • I think it a trick. He's not telling us everything. I think he put scotch tap on the balloon, to prevent the balloon from ripping at the puncture points.

  • @JonaVicis hes not i tried without the vegtable oil and it works

  • @JonaVicis A boy in my class did this for his science experiment one year. He tried a bunch of different liquids. This really does work. Only with vegetable oil though.

  • @JonaVicis no just oil

  • are the glasses really necessary?

  • @youkeylaylee if the balloon pops...

  • @youkeylaylee yes, the balloon can cause a radioactive slime explosion, didn't you know that?

  • no

  • @SteveSpanglerScience The oil makes the air stick to it so the balloon dosen't pop?

  • Sweet balloncabob

  • I think all of you are wrong? It's because of the oil that blocks the air from escaping!

  • dident you already do this vid and I'm not disin

  • wow that was cool!!!!

  • the oil makes it nice and slick

    so it can go threw

  • I believe the oil wets the skewer so that it wont splinter and pop the ballon, and so long as you keep that hole plugged, it should retain air.

  • Now take it out !

  • will it work for my hand?

  • You did this in september 2009

  • balloons for BBQ eh?

  • You should skewer SOPA. That will help...

  • @superpoop899 SOPA has now been dropped! no congress liked it!

  • @superpoop899 May I ask, what is SOPA?

  • @superpoop899 Amen

  • @superpoop899 sopa is over -_-

  • adult supervision , lol

  • cool

  • From 0:36 you can see the balloon deflating :P

  • i like the song

  • My left ear is lovin this the right side of my headphones are broken...

  • the oil make and air tight seal so that the balloon does not pop

  • shut up u all bored me!!! ZzZzZz

  • I was able to do this without the oil?

  • My guess is that when the skewer enters the baloon, the oil fills any space around the skewer, so air cant escape? Comment back if im wrong.

  • It's simply where the thickest rubber is.

  • I got the skewer through the ballon, now what?

  • very simple. if you notice the top and bottom aren't stretched out so it is safe ( the oil helps it go in ) if you did it in the middle it would pop because it is the most stretched out spot

  • i love the do de do song

  • Now take it out.

  • the air doesnt go out by when the oil gets on the balloon it closes up any openings for the air to go out

  • This is otherwise known as 'paralysing' the balloon

  • U dont need the oil to do this

  • This is the stupid crap we enjoy as subscribed :)

  • The side of the balloon is stretched out and in the middle is not so the balloon would not pop when you stick the skewer in the balloon it would not pop

  • Polymers concept. The balloon doesn't burst because the screw/sharp stick inserted to the areas ( north/south) where the polymers of the balloon wasn't stretched to its maximum elasticity. Try to insert the sharp stick in the part of the balloon where in the polymers are stretched. Of course the balloon will pop immediately.

  • Hey don't answer that Ahhh I hate nerds

  • @hikarisoul007 Then why are you watching this

  • u can also do this with an "X" of tape and poke the whole in the middle

  • By lubricating the skewer and forcing it through the thicker part of the ballon (bottom opening and top) he was able to easily slide it without popping the ballon!

  • I mean how did it NOT pop?!?

  • @melchiblue It doesn't pop because he inserts the skewer in the "non stretched" part of the balloon- i.e. very close to the knot he tied, and the opposite end of the balloon (the tip).

It would pop if you inserted it on the stretched side.

  • HOW DO YOU DO THIS?!?!?

  • the oil creates an air-tight seal when the skewer ispressed through,a nd sinnce its at the two thickest parts of the baloon. no pop

  • the oil makes the latex in the balloon instantly "heal"

  • i bet you can make a game out of this, see how many sticks you can get in without poping it!

  • imagine u put like 10 sticks and donesnt pop

  • i remember when steve himself did this

  • @therealcruz stop stealing from mojang

  • do i need air for this

  • SOPA HOW ABOUT NOPA!!!!

  • fake i think

  • @pokemon4674 nope.

  • @pokemon4674 Why would that be fake?

  • @pokemon4674 Do it yourself.

  • The oil reduces friction causing the stuff to do stuff which makes the skewer do stuff and it goes through with the stuff

  • i always hum along to the music :)

  • ....cuz oil makes less friction. It's kinda self explanatory...

  • when you put the skewer through the middle it wont pop because most of the air that you use to blo it are on the sides

  • I can do this with my mind. No objects needed.

  • The oil ''seals'' the small airslip, that usually come when popping a ballon.

  • The surfaces of the oil on the skewer and the rubber on the baloon make a flush seal not letting any air escape

  • I wanna see the bloopers! I mean, there's no way he got it on the first try.

  • My mind = Blown

  • the oil stops the air from coming out. you can do this with a bag of water instead of the balloon and oil.

  • When u oil the skewer it reduces the force of friction that causes the tear ???

  • I can do this with a pen. no oil needed

  • wheres how it simply works.... "The knot" is where the not-so streched part is

  • @theccft You're a genius

  • @theccft i have done this trick many times you can do it anywhere on the ballon if you do it soft enough!!!

  • @theccft What about when he pokes it through the other side as well?

  • He never puts on the glasses naturally, he always like forces them open like its stuck

  • @alexchooo123 Craigslist maybe?

  • The balloon is thick in the ends and the oil helps the skewer come through easily and probably helps with keeping the air in.

  • Seems pretty simple, doesn't the oil form a kind of seal around the puncture, keeping air from escaping?

  • @Jawshooah you can do it without oil it just make the needle more easy to go in the balloon but the place where he insert the needle near the knot have way more rubber along with the place where the needle came out so it doesnt pop out

  • dude you should do one of those ball thingies that can stand almost still on a slope, you know with the weight inside

  • cool

  • Its old but cool trick. :-)

  • put a piece of sticky tape on the balloon and you can push a needle through it

  • @Alycla I did that but my house blew up. O-o

  • Ooh sweet, I always wondered how to do the "needle-through-the-balloon" trick

  • That was awesome!

    Gonna try it right away!

Its the things like these that are the reason i subbed :)

  • I am summer camp counselor and this past summer I did this for my group of boys and they were all amazed at how I could stick the skewers through the balloon .

  • the oil doesn't let the air flow out, therefore it doesn't burst

  • Dark magic!!!!

  • my conclusion... i did it wrong... it popped

  • Its magic.

  • Smoothed surface?

  • I know this trick, I've seen it before. In Poland next to a museum of Mikolaj Kopernik, when you stand in the line to get in to the museum they show all kinds of cool stuff like this ! :)

  • @55MrDude dude are you polish

  • really.. its just the air that cannot come out of the ballon = no popping

  • Lemme see. The oil doesn't allow the air to come out?

  • most of air wont escape because of the oil and at the bottom and the top the baloon aren't stretched out alot.

  • Rubber/latex or whatever stretches to "make room" for the skewer. You use the bottom and top because those are the least stretched areas >.>.

  • Why does this happen?

  • witchcraft

  • take #150: finally the balloon stays intact

  • I thought it was something like going let go of the ballon, but i guess i went overboard! :)

  • i was so scared when i did this but it woked thanks :)

  • I think it's cuz the oil made the stick slippy,..? O_O

IDK I'm not good at Science but heck I love it xD

  • does it works on all types of oil?

  • You could also use petroleum jelly to do this. ;)

  • AWESOME!!

  • The first godo video

  • I did the same thing but my balloon went Boom :(

  • The vegetable oil will ensure that this video gets removed by SOPA.

  • I have no idea, but I could tell you why had you used tape.

  • old

  • oil prevents air from escaping the balloon?

  • woop woop u changed the title of this after i commented i feel special o.o

  • Very cool. Not sure how, but I'll find out! <3

  • Cool

  • OMG SOPA!

  • Obviously the balloon is stronger on the top and on the bottom. also the oil works as a lubricant so it goes in and out smoothly

  • What kind of sorcery is this?!!

  • and now? :D

  • awesome

  • I remember trying this before! It, uh, didn't go so well....

  • cool :D

  • i did that ones without oil or soap and it worked great

  • Balloon Massacre!!!

Lol i remember you doing this experiment around 2 years ago!

  • Mother of Eistein O_O!

  • 1 person is a weirdo...

  • the oil stopd the air from coming out, stops the air way (:

  • Its a balloon? And a point stick and that needs supervision apparently <.<"

  • I love your brain !

  • That poor baloon never did anything to you!

  • Old trick, but still cool :)

  • may have to chnge the title :P

  • That's amazing!

  • wow just wow

  • hallo

  • wut?
