I should die, you know why, cause my dad had a 77 cadillac coupe devill, money green color interior and exterior, and i crashed the front right bumper, i amashamed, loved that car though, it got in 3 other seperat wrecks (not me driving) left dents in it, and all 3 of the cars involed were totaled, wonderful car
I love the 77-92 full size Caddies. 92 You say??? Yeah, The 1977 Models ushered in the body/frame design that spanned parts of 3 decades. The ONLY major change was in 1980. Look at the dash of a 1989 Brougham. Only The steering wheel, radio and climate controls changed. (1990-1992 moved the vents around to make room for a double DIN radio) These were THE CLASSIEST CARS ON EARTH!
@TxISnIpErIxT its a awsome car.don t could compare this year.mercedes bmw are more compact.but its car never get tired in.american cars have a lot of things eh
in early years to offer than europeans.its piece of history
Even though the the so called "downsizing" did start with '77 model year, they were`nt downsized that much and they look HUGE compared to what`s being offered current day. You`d be amazed at how HUGE the '77 -'92 models look with full rear fender skirts on them.I`ve got custom rear skirts on my '78 Deville and the ride looks longer with them on.
@pompste The 1977 full size GM line-up was drastically downsized from the previous year. GMs full sized cars such as the Cadillac Deville lost a 1/2 ton in weight and a foot in length. The cars were almost as roomy inside but the entire body was reduced in width and length. The 1977 Deville is approx. the same size as the current full-size Lincoln Town Car and Ford Crown Victoria. Rear fender skirts sure make a car look longer. To bad they were'nt an option (or standard) on the 1977 Deville.
You`ve got your facts right, dude! They also bored down the 500 cubic inch engine to a 425 (8.0 liter down to a 7.0 liter) to pacify the stricter gas mileage laws of the time.
I`ve actually seen a '76 & '77 Deville parked next to each other and there is a noticeable size difference. That being said, the '77 thru '92 Broughams & Deville`s are still really big luxury rides compared to current day Cadillac luxury rides. The Caddy DTS is only 207" long while the '77-'92's are 221" long.
Classic ride. I gotta admit I roll with the imports, but I'm a big big fan of cars from the muscle era. I would have me 2 or 3 great muscle cars from the 60's and 70's if I could afford them. I know the Caddy is a cruiser, but this one and others before the 77 remain to be classics. I just don't agree with the crap they make today. I wonder if others agree, and thats why GM is falling apart.
Legend has it that the 1977, 1978, 1979 Coupe DeVilles, & Sedans with the 425 ci engine are among the most durable engines ever built by GM. I heard of one that reached 650,000 miles before being rebuilt. The HT 4100 V8, the underpowered 4.1 V6, and DFI's, and the Diesels were not so good. I still see many of these late 70s models driving around, including an old lady in a near mint seafoam green one. Lemon creme yellow was also a very popular color. Nice vid. I agree imports are too ubiquitous.
The legend is true! I`ve got a '78 Caddy Sedan Deville 425 V8 and she`s still going strong 33 years later with the original engine! Nice land yacht, great highway cruiser too.

It's in dandy shape for a '77. If it's been restored it's gorgeous, if it's original, it's spectacular.

Don't care what anyone says cadillac always has been the best of quality among any automaker and still are
that why you see so many old cadillac's driving in usa - they've got money to drive the big v8 engines

The 1977s were better built than the far larger 1976 models. GM had to prove that the new 'downsized' Caddy was quality built and it was.
