@MaistoHelix Many things come off the orbiter on purpose at launch. Many thruster rain covers on the fwd and aft come off by design, vapor barriors in the ET tank umbilical area come off and hydrogen burn indicators come off near the aft along with some unwanted ice and foam.
man this is the worst quality launch video in a while, even the quality from the external tank camera. i hope they pull all the stops out for camera angles on the atlantis launch!!
For the Commander and all who make this mission, and for each of the people who put their work and intelligence in this creation, my sincere congratulations ... it's great and amazing that God has given you unique and makes intelligence to differentiate you from our human race ...... God bless you always ......
Thank you NASA for postponing the launch! It would be heartbreaking to see another shuttle go down especially on its last mission. I will miss that massive beauty that is the space shuttle but I know that all of you at KSC will develop something outstanding!
It seems that after the shuttle missions are over the US media will not be covering in to the mainstream news of NASA Astronauts that will be using the Soyuz rockets to get to the international space station. Or will NASA be launching people from Kennedy Space Center Any More in the next year? Send the Robots Up!
Space exploration/ Science/ Engineering videos get such a small fraction of the Internet's attention. It is shameful that this is so. I'm probablly preaching to the choir here, but C'MON! We are riding colossal, controlled explosions to perpetually fall around our Earth's center of mass! Not only that, but we have built a house-sized artificial moon that six people live in (ISS). Amidst all our metaphoric (and literal) poo-slinging, I'm looking up, and hopefully more people look up soon.
The only danger in space is if we land on the terrible Planet of the Apes ... wait a minute. Statue of Liberty ... THAT WAS OUR PLANET! YOU MANIACS! YOU BLEW IT UP! DAMN YOU! DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL
I always wonder if the energy spent in puting a crew in space with a space shuttle all these years, would be the equivalent to build a space elevator....
It doesn't matter what race, creed or background you're from, this quite literally has to be one of the the coolest things you have ever seen in you're life!!
@Kmarion i was really looking forward to it tough. i watched for 8 hours on that friday when it was scrubbed. atlantis is my only chance now of watching it live :(
Sadly, we'll be waiting a long time for a new vehicle, with the cancellation of the Constellation program, which *was* supposed to be the replacement for the Shuttle. Once the last flight of the Shuttle lands later this year, barring a major miracle, the US will be *OUT* of the manned space flight business.
wow... another great take off! very nice..

@CHEOEDU what the fuck has god to do with science?
Hackepeter42 9 months ago 2
@CHEOEDU Trust some non-God fearing people to always pass inappropriate comments about God.
God "invented/created" science, or at least the brains we have to use science. Never too late to figure that.

One more space shuttle launch, right? This was so smooth, you could think we do this on a daily basis.
I hope the private industry will catch up as soon as possible to allow NASA to do a smooth transition.

I'm going to the next/last one in June! (and it seems so is a million other people.)
I've always wondered (For some reason) how Christpher Columbous whould have reacted to this. he was an explorer. They are explorers.
