yes & kerouac is credited on waits' album "orphans, bawlers, brawlers and bastards" so stating it was kind of pointless 'cause anyone heavy into waits already knows that. & also people are entitled to their opinions. if this song made it real for someone, then leave it be. Tom did bring it to life and without him a lot of us wouldn't know who Jack Kerouac is because we didn't have the luxury of growing up around parents who knew him either or during his generation.
@LandoftheShanks Reality isn't an opinion. And I don't think it's pointless to tell anyone anything because anyone who's heavy into the subject would already know, anyone who isn't wouldn't. And maybe a lot of people wouldn't know that Jack Kerouac wrote it if they didn't have the luxury of someone telling them. It's not pointless that Waits covered it and made those of you who didn't know who Kerouac was know, because anyone who's heavy into Kerouac already knows, right?
Well, it was always real. Of course, the fact that a musical artist (and one of my favorites at that) has recorded it makes it that much sweeter. I wasn't trying to make any sort of a point, just stating it for anyone who didn't already know.
I don't get the video, but that's OK

@Rilkir Orphans: Brawlers Bawlers and Bastards. Disc 2 if I'm not mistaken. The album is pretty great.

@billtree52 It's on Bastards, which is Disc 3. But they are all great.

you should definitely revisit this video. Its a little difficult to understand whats going on, but the concept is great.
Also, I can't help but notice a lot of these tom waits clay animation videos end in suicide.
