Like I said before.... This is one of my all time favorite pieces of organ music. Besides Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor I can't think of any classical piece more Gothic than Boellman's "Gothic Suite." :)
Gabrielle Tessier (gabrielletessier) is also worth hearing in the Suite Gothique. She's recorded the whole Suite, like Minh Nguyen (pianorgano). For some reason she's only had a tiny fraction of the number of viewings that pianorgano has had, despite her recordings being to a higher standard technically.
I love to see young people playing the organ! WONDERFUL!! What a talented young person playing the Boellmann! I'm sure Mr. Boellmann would be in heaven to hear this young person playing his composition. More more more!!
I think you are a very talented musician. Keep playing, and posting so that people like me can learn from you wonderful gift.
If you were only 12 and two years into lessons, I can imagine what you sound like and are doing now on the greatest of all instruments: the organ. Take only positive criticism. Not all offered is positive, though it might appear that way. GREAT WORK! KEEP IT UP!!
You played this after only two years of lessons?! Wow, you are a gifted young man; great version. The toccata, although quickly and vivaciously played sounds accurate to me. Keep up the excellent work! The instrument has a wonderful, perfectly balanced warm tonality in the best Cavaillé-Coll tradition of symphonic instruments. The perfect location of the organ and clear acoustics of this church render a very clear sound too.
Far be it from me to be critical, even though the suggestion were professional and correct. I just want to say..continue to play. You have a 'sweetness' in your fingering, and your shading I just enjoy. Please be encourage to continue. Thanks Dr. Addison

Fourth movement FAR too fast to be accurate. Keep the swell box closed until you switch to the choir. Plus, don't use any registers above 4' to get the real sound. Choir reeds first where indicated, etc.
An indication of the changing tempo in the Priere is the "Rit poco a poco" mark at the bottom of the third page. Try "moving it on" a little in the middle section at least.
The Priere a Notre Dame is a lovely piece but this performance is disappointing - too mechanical and too slow. It's a good idea to start with the Voix Celeste and add a Leiblich on the second phrase and something else on the third phrase. And then on the repeated phrase, play the pedal an octave lower on one instance, followed by those left hand notes possibly on the Choir with a Clarinet or a Great Diapaison. I think a little rubato is quite admissable in this piece and can add to it.
The composer indication for tempo was : TRE'S LENT and you know what that means in French. Thanks for comments anyway. Can you show me your video clip of this piece so that I can learn from it ?
Yes, of course, but time is pressing at the moment so please remind me. However, nowadays I don't have much time to practice and so play more from habit than the need for regular performance but in any event try to express the feeling. As a teenager my organ teacher told me that my rendition of the Boellman toccata sounded fantastic but that I was only playing 2/3rds of all the notes. That's the peril of playing in a cathedral acoustic.
@pianorgano Nice answer to the know-it-all creep "latribe"...I've always wished others would say the same thing when being questioned about their interpretations of organ music. NICE JOB!!! Nice playing, also.
@swc789rjp It's not a matter of being know-it-all - I have simply tried to give some helpful tips to help a young performer achieve perfection well within their grasp.
Nowadays I spend more time promoting musicians than practicing and performing, but that does not detract from knowing and being able to pass on to others how it should be done.
Forgive me for being critical - Toccata technically good but perhaps not enough dynamic contrast - probably a good idea to decouple the Swell from the Choir at the beginning to contrast the organ departments, to then bring them together for the grand crescendo. And you need to practice pedal work without looking at the feet. . . .
Very nice job...! But hey, what is it with YouTube and Boëllmann? I've never heard the original edition of the Toccata here on YouTube! :s But the 3rd movement was very good! Now I'm going to listen to the first and second. ^.^ I really looking forward to it.

I can't play Toccata. It is so difficult to get an organ teacher to teach. So, I just cheat when I play organ during the worship service.

@latribe Yes - as you said, to make the performance less disappointing. I think a Vox Balenae 64' would also add to the gravity of the piece.

Try not to just jump right into the louder parts. Gradually use the swell pedal to make a fine crescendo. Don't do it instantly. Otherwise, nice job!
