@nyomythus Well he's on Fox. They must train them to have 'conservative values' and manners of talking or even yelling over people they try to put down.
Christopher Hitchens is an intellectual. Sarah Palin, who would have mostly likely become president after McCain's death, has retarded her own intellectual progress through multiple means.
An Alaskan beauty queen isn't fit to be President of the United States just because she hunts moose in her spare time. Hitchen's, who speaks eloquently, shouldn't be expected to support someone who can't answer the question "What books or magazines do you read?"
It's almost like the host's lecturing Hitchens! Look at him sitting there at around 4:00, just listening to the host, as if he's given up. Well this is a first!
@louiscfc93 Absolutely, I think it's very important that voices on the Right are expressed and heard, and Fox often gives a critical counter argument to the Left. Otherwise Liberalism becomes something perverted, twisted, dogmatic .. I don't want Liberalism in tablet form any more than I want Religion in tablet form. Somewhere along the way the Left lost it's tolerance to self-criticism and that can be just as appalling to me as any other form of demagogy.
I can only laugh at this. Is this a comedy show. You would think this was in North Korea. Such biased journalism just reeks. Christopher Hitchens is a smart man.
I think Tony Blair said it best. He's mentioned more than once that Prime Minister's Questions are broadcast in America: "There's no accounting for taste!"
There are rare U.S. TV shows where everyone acts civil. But those things just aren't entertaining enough.
Thank goodness for YouTube. I can see people make their cases at their own pace. Even people whose positions I don't like! It's refreshing!
Fox is honest about their biases, at least. I can't stand watching 60 Minutes on CBS sometimes.
Herein lies the difference between someone who can change their position based upon the facts (Hitchens) and someone who is a ruthless, shameless apologist for power & wealth, who pushes fallacious talking points and who creates ignorance and hatred and fear in her audience (Ingraham).
Hitchens makes his listeners think. Ingraham tells her listeners what and how to think. The fact that there are so many Ingraham fans out there tells us how societies can fall into fascism and ruin. WAKE UP!!!
I´m English and although Hitchens is a brilliant man I am from the North of the country and his snooty tones wind me up. However, I prefer even his upper class intonation to this whiny bitch who can best be described as a little "spikey".
He supported Obama, if there must be a primary issue, because McCain seems to be or seemed to demonstrate that he's not thinking clearly, as in he may be showing early signs of mental deterioration associated with aging -- and stating that he, Obama, will resume the fight against militant jihadism is a plus; slap their asses down and keep pounding and humiliating the bastards till it's just not cool to be a Jihadist anymore.
don't you just want to smack Laura Ingraham . . just the dinn of her voice is nerve wracking . . HUH ! She is supposed to represent these "tough" white-republican "cut-the-crap" feminists ("feministas") when in fact she is on a power-trip
I think Laura is upset because she thinks the right wing has lost an intellectual powerhouse from their side, even though Christopher Hitchens openly stated that he was "no kind of conservative." Now the smart right wingers are jumping off of the McCain ship thereby leaving the remaining bigots and morons to drown on their sinking ship.
Hi McC - I agree it is Free Speech and would never want to censor...as that is an even more slippery slope. However, it is my patriotic duty to point out that they are indeed Proganda :-)
This is a perfect example of what our so called media passes to the American people as serious dialogue. They work hard every day to divide us. 20 years ago FOX would have been considered pure Propaganda...now it resonates as journalistic truth with an ever growing segment of Americans who have been brainwashed by this garbage. Sad and pathetic as it is, it is also dangerous to the principles of Freedom of the Press.
Notice O'Reilly is not there to face Hitchens and never will face him because he knows he is clearly out of his league, which is exactly why Ingraham will not let Hitch speak uninterrupted. Right-wingers are intellectual inferiors.
The only way O'Reilly could win a debate with Hitchens is if O'Reilly literally blew on a horn the entire time, going redder and redder in the face, and then speaking out of breath in a whisper, "cut to commercial...". lol
i love Hitchens, but I would think he would support Obama because Obama is socialist.
I think it's funny that Hitchens talks about actuary percentages. With all the alcohol Hitchens has consumed, as a functioning alcholic? you would think the tendency for him would be to be senile and slow. Alcohol does shrink the brain over time.
The ad hom is alway cute, like watching a kindergarten class, but on the former note Hitchens isn't a socialist, he's more in the camp of laissez-faire liberalism (opposite of the post-modern new Left) which is a doctrine stressing the importance of human rationality, ethical individualism, natural rights, the protection of civil liberties, constitutional limitations of government, free markets; Jefferson, Thomas Payne, John Stuart Mill, Montesquieu, Voltaire ... do you begin to see what I mean?
i hope you are right.. i know that Hitchens was a Trotskyite...he went to Cuba during college to promote socialism.. he has spoke fondly of it throughout his writing.. i hope that he has been reformed more and more with the sales of his books
Food on the table is a great motivator we can all have solidarity with, no doubt, and it doesn't just work for us in a selfish way, but for everyone willing get off their ass and get a job, it's actually a great and natural way of living as has been successfully demonstrated.
This is embarrassing for Hitchens. He should have simply said that McCain is senile and that that renders his policies irrelevant. That is, after all, what he said in his Slate article. Yet he feels the need to pussyfoot around with the hard-right that he snuggled up to. Why is that? Perhaps because after all his bluster he really doesn't have the stomach for the hard right or the hard left and has to take mincing steps among the wishy washy centrists that the rest of us do. How humbling!
It's a nuance but the Slate article reads, "McCain occasionally remembers to stress matters like honor and to disown innuendoes and slanders, but this only makes him look both more senile and more cynical, since it cannot (can it?) be other than his wish and design that he has engaged a deputy who does the innuendoes and slanders for him." ...senile in this sense isn't stating that McCain has this mental impairment but a ''seeming to be''. Hitchens would not presume to speak for a gerontologist.
Purely on a superficial note, what an utter contrast in their voices: one a smooth, articulate intonation flowing with intelligence and sophistication, the other this hideous, screeching whine that seems to be forced through the nasal passage under extreme pressure.
I think Hitchens summed this interview up best though, why bother inviting a guest on for his opinions only to have the 'conversation's airtime dominated by the host?
What a great man casting his pearls before a 3rd class swine. (And her sty full of viewers)
