  • dad is a straight up beast!

  • the by far worst part of the movie is the lameness of the characters in the movie, they are all sexist and racist portrays of stereotypes. Maybe it was okay to portray people like that in apartheid or europe in mid '30s, but it's just lame in a movie of today.

  • well honestly, while the acting/script really is god awful, the CGI was extremely impressive. It was worth watching for that. It's not a good movie though, but it's nice to look at.

  • Gab is sexy.

  • My mom picked up 2012 on DVD this past week and I borrowed it from her. Yeah, it's by no means a sweeping masterpiece but it was a fun, mindless ride. Did run a bit too long, though. Had some interesting ideas. Some were executed O.K. Some weren't. I was telling a friend on here, how many times can Roland Emmerich f@#$ up the planet? LOL. Thankfully this is his last disaster pic. I really digged John Cusack and Woddy Harrelson in the film though.

Excellent review. Dad is pure comic gold! LOL

  • great review

  • hahaha Dad is hilarious!

    I loved this movie personally

something very fun to watch about it

not meant to be taken seriously at all lol

  • I get where your going when you say that the destruction gets old its like this

beginning: "Omfg did you see that omg"!\

2 hours later: Oh look there goes another monument, og look that person just got crushed, oh there goes Washington DC bye bye see ya later".

  • It's not in anyway a good movie, but its a fun one. Great Review!

  • @moviegoinggamer I thought it was an amazing movie with amazing SEs it has some really emotional moments too

  • Sorry I have to disagree with you guys. i thought the movie was a lot of fun actually and the story was suprisingly strong. There was not all that much CGI destruction really, and it was interesting what they did with the follow up story. I am sorry you didn't enjoy it, 'cuz I had lots of fun with it!

  • Really good review there and i pretty much agree with all of it. This was one of those movies where the script was so bad, it actually made the effects go awry. unlike in day after tomorrow or independence day where you can just disable your brain and go along with it, here you couldnt help feel you were watching a C quality tv mini series.

Perticularly apreciate that you did remember that some parts of the movie are interesting, but not used right. for me the "goodbye" scenes really worked.

  • I saw it on Sunday, and i actually thought it was a fun movie, the only thing i was expecting was some cool disaster sequences and to have fun with the action. and to that extent i was pleased with it.

  • When you were talking about how the characters didn't really engage you, it reminded me of one part on MST3K's "Cave Dwellers"

Tom Servo: (sarcasm) What makes this scene so great is that we CARE about the characters.

    Crow: We do?

    Tom: We do!

    Crow: I mean... "We do?!"

    Tom: We really do.

  • Yer theres loads of scientific gounding for the 2012 premise!

  • This is a great review on not a great film, it wasnt such a bad idea at first i thought because 2012 is well within sight you can relate to the film easier to a disaster flic set 100+ years into the futre. But the film was , for want of a better word crap! 2012 is nearly 3 hours long and all you got for it were the same natural tragedy 5 times and an amazing driver in john kusack who out ran the apocolypse! I thought the review itself was enjoyable and nice to watch but 2012 unfortunately wasnt

  • Loved the review. I was a bit easier on the film but when you go in to a movie expecting nothing. This is still proof that UP and District 9 are the two best films this year

  • Haha, you guys are funny, nice playing off each other. :-) I have to say it's the best effects-driven disaster movie I've ever seen. Characters + Plot = Nonexistant, for sure. I had to write that off completely just to enjoy what I was psyched to see which was an air craft carrier crashing into the White House, etc. You are correct, not many of us gals reviewing online, but if we stick together, it supports the cause!

  • good video!

  • haha. I like the comments about the well scene and the script. That made me laugh. Good review guys. My review was crazy and a bit more lenient on the film. Very dumb, but fun somehow. Keep up the good work.

  • I really liked it. It was a great upgrade on the older disaster movies. It kinda fell apart at the end. The VFX were great and I really like John Cusack. Totally understand where u guys were comming from.

  • The thing is, people are actually afraid of the world ending in 2012. Also, it is very bold to say there is no script for a nearly 3 hour movie. 2012 is the perfect movie to see in theaters because it's like a roller coaster ride. It's supposed to be fun, its not supposed to be deep and honestly bashing my head on a garden fence is infinitely less enjoyable that 2012 was.

  • Its way to long to be seen as a rollercoast ride.

  • Oh wow, you must watch my review I had very similar observations! It's so hilarious!

  • I love Philip's insight on this film. I really enjoyed this film. I thought for me it was really EPIC!I will put my review as a video response to yours.

  • Can't wait for your epic insight!

  • Great review! Dad cracks me up - he puts the film in its place in such an eloquent way. Gab, I'm glad I watched this review. If I hear any of my friends mention wanting to see the film, I'll send them to this review.

John Cusack should be ashamed he was in this movie. No paycheck amount could justify him burying himself like this.

  • man Gab&Dad don't pull any punches i'd love for us to do a combo review one day so we can all tear a movie a new one together! nice review guys!

    -Wes

  • Does that mean we have to come to Hawaii?? Oh, OKAY...!!!

  • lol sadly i've moved to LA but the offer still stands!!!

  • I'm actually going to LA this week! But I don't think my husband would like me hanging with two cool dudes! lol

  • My God that was a great review!!

  • LOL

  • damn well u should come by we can review New moon.... ugh lol, be our 1st official movie review guest!

  • Yep I skipped this one I heard it sucked. Im holding out for Ninja Assassins, The Blind Side, Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans

  • Ya, way better stuff coming up...

  • HAHA! Dad is honestly hilarious when he hates a movie.

  • Gab and Dad for life

  • Sorry you disliked it so much... I totally understand why. I would definitively call it a "pop corn" film... no thinking necessary, just sit back eat and watch all the pretty colors :P Great review!

  • It wasn't even that I HATED it (like Dad), I was more indifferent... and bored! If it gets to the point where I'm not impressed by the effects anymore (or anything else going on), then it's expired in my book!

  • I real like your reviews guys keep them coming

  • Thanks!

  • Awesome review as always! I was going to go and see this with some friends but I decided to skip it, but I still might go next weekend. Just in the mood for a dumb fun CGI movie.

  • This will probably suit your mood then! ;D

  • Great review. Will you guys be reviewing "New Moon" ??

  • Gab will be away this weekend (I'm actually seeing the New Moon cast on Jimmy Kimmel on Friday!), so won't be able to get to it at least for now.

  • Aww! Lucky! haha. Thanks again for all the great reviews. Have a good one.

  • Call me an idiot but I enjoyed it. I think you guys are reading way too far into it.

  • Any viewer of ours is no idiot... ;) It was just too long to not have much else going for it except for effects that become less effective after a while. But, it is what it is.

  • "now that was good writing!" LOL, that made me laugh.

great review once again! i think i may have liked it a little better but I pretty much agree with everything you two said...it's about an hour too long and when it got to the point where you were supposed to think "I really hope John Cusack can make it!" you don't care anymore. I think I tuned out once it became Noah's Ark meets The Poseidon Adventure, lol.

  • LOL - you hit the nail on the head with that last act!

  • I saw you on IMDB. I was browsing a message board for A Christmas Carol and a post said "Check out my son's review of this" AND IT WAS YOU! I said "WOO! GO MAX! YOUR MOM ADVERTISED YOU!"

    Great Review!

  • Ha - That's great, my marketing attempts are working a bit! Yes, I try to spread the word, so to speak... :)
