  • Isn't he running ther because of one of their soldiers is hanging in something there? beeing kept one something in barbed wire or whatever it was?

  • @rabies79 No it's him that is hanging there. After the explosion it makes a cross out of wood and barbed wire and he's caught to it like jesus. It makes absolutely no sense.

  • @rabies79 Oh and he runs there because whoever wrote the movie was an idiot.

  • @redrising926 wut?

  • Lol!

"Oh my God, Sargeant! What happened here?"

    War! That happened. ^^

  • mein gott feldwebel was ist denn hier passiert :D:D:D:D

  • "I just think and Know that a true patriot has to be nationalist" YA because Washington was a nationalist" lol. cause so many Americans have

being a patriot means to love, serve and defend your country. love it... say the pledge, don't blow it off. serve it.. when you don't agree to something speak out against it. serving your country doesn't mean you have to agree with the president or anyone who is doing anything. defend it... not just through war... through peace as well.

  • to let it be known to all Theunforgivenrebel says everyone is a nationalist because they are Patriots and or supporting there Country.

  • @Dogmeat1950 No, I don't say that. I just think and Know that a true patriot has to be nationalist.

  • @TheUnforgivenRebel which isnt necessarily a good thing.

  • @Dogmeat1950 Nationalism is being proud for your nation.

  • @AVTTV No it's not you dumb fool!

being proud of your nation it called Being Patrotic.

  • @Dogmeat1950 Dumb fool? Coming from the guy who forgot an "I". Anyways, I'm nationalistic toward Canada, meaning and I am proud. It's not that hard to figure out.

  • @Dogmeat1950 Idiot! beeing patriotic is beeing faithfull to your goverment, A Nationalist loves his country! big different! Nazi Germany destroyed the word "Nationalist" so now everyone that loves their country and sais they are nationalists are getting called nazis...

  • Yeah sure, and the germans just walked in the front of the loaded guns....!

  • 0:13-0:17

    Canadians never miss.

  • @canuckleful

Yes the film is a bit one sided when it comes to combat, but I think thats okay because Passchendaele also cares about the enemy and portrays us not as bloodthirsty madmen as we are portrayed in most WW movies(for the 2nd thats okay to a certain degree because it is true, but for th 1st it isnt).

  • @DeutscherFilmer3 I think that most Canadians already know that Germans aren't monsters. I liked this movie, because it showed that no matter what side you're on, everyone is just a person, and that's it. I recommend you look up the story "christmas in the trenches", it's beautiful.

  • @canuckleful

That is good to hear, but it happens often enough that I hear that there are still people who think nothing has changed in Germany since 1945. -.-

Do you mean the ballad by John McCutcheon? It is pretty nice but I found a little mistake. ;) He says the gas clouds stopped to roll. As far as I know gas wasnt used on the Western front until Ypres in 1915, but the ballad takes place in Christmas 1914.

  • @canuckleful

It was not everywhere like that. Somewhere we beat the Scottish in the footbaal match, somewhere some French soldiers tought "Stille Nacht" would be a war song and started shelling the German trench. :-/ Luckily they stopped when they recognized that our soldiers did not shoot back.

  • @DeutscherFilmer3 That is unfortunate, but the moral is that even in these apauling conflicts, there is a bit of humility, a bit of love, a bit of peace.

  • @canuckleful

Unfortunately most future conflicts lacked these moments of humanity, whereas it happened several times and almost everywhere in WWI.

For example the Christmas truce did not simply happen at a local trench, but on many parts of the frontline.

  • @DeutscherFilmer3 Now, if we press a button, our enemy is incinerated, no hope of fighting back. Where's the honour?

  • 0:20 jockey!!

  • My grandfather was at Passchendaele...he told me the horror of it all, when I was a young boy.

I cannot discount ever the heroism of the CEF, but I must admit this war was futile. I am so grateful Mr. Gross made this movie in honour of those men. Whatever I do in my life seems to pale in comparsion to what these young lads endured.

  • @thm149 , A great movie. But remember there were other times were it was normal that people died in war, the new soldier was excited to fight for his country because he didn't know what the war was really like. Many men on both sides saw a tragic dead and there wasn't even a "Good side" and an "Evil Side", both sides were "good".

  • @TheUnforgivenRebel

"Many men on both sides saw a tragic dead and there wasn't even a "Good side" and an "Evil Side", both sides were "good". "

    True.

    Greetings from Germany

  • @DeutscherFilmer3 We forgive, but we don't forget eh? :)

  • @canuckleful

Well here in Germany we do forget. Okay this is an exaggeration, but it has truth in it when I say that probably most Germans wonder why the Second World War is called the Second. WWI is waaaay overshadowed by WWII here in Germany, sure we learn about it in school, but in normal life there iss almost no connection, no memorial day, only few references in the media or popular culture; in contrast: There is almost every day a documentary about WWII in the TV.

  • Comment removed

  • @DeutscherFilmer3 That's a shame. The young Germans who died in this war deserve respect. Have you seen the movie "All Quiet on The Western Front"?

It shows that brilliant men died on all sides. As for WW2, We were all desperate.

  • @canuckleful

Yeah it is truly a shame. When I went to church to our graduation service yesterday I recognized that they put some of the memorial plates away. The church was renovated and maybe these plates are now somewhere else and no longer at the entrance, but I missed the memorial plates for the men who died in WWII and the one for a guy who was killed around 1904 in Africa during an uprising. Maybe the church is of the opinion they fought for an unjust cause and thus is ashamed of them.

  • @DeutscherFilmer3 I guess we don't need plaques. They are beautiful, but as long as we have the men in our thoughts, and we acnowledge what they went through, they can be at peace :)

  • @canuckleful

Yeah right, but stuff like memorial days or plates can help to remind comin generations to cherish the memory of these men and what they endured to be aware how horrible war is and that they can feel compasion with every good soldier in war. It doesn't help to call them murderers or to ignore them, that only contributes to all the psychological problems which come through fighting, seeing horrible things, etc. Just as it often happens with our men in Afghanistan.

  • @DeutscherFilmer3 True. Like the Americans in Vietnam. They force these kids to go fight against overwhelming odds, they get phisically and phsycologically wounded, and then they come home and are called murderers. We need to change as people. You hear about the dead in Afghanistan, you don't hear about the Fathers who come home with no legs.

  • @canuckleful, the difference is that in WW1 there wasn't marihuana nor rolling stones. Instead, there was for the Germans, true patriotism and happy marching songs...

  • @TheUnforgivenRebel True, but still, some fat cat on wall street forces me to go through hell for 365 days, and I come home and am shuned by my family and friends. You must admit thats bull shit. And hey, if my only escape from the horrors of reality was pot, well...

  • @canuckleful, What a dark time in american history... people dying all because of nothing. And in the US, those hairy guys who went against THEIR OWN SOLDIERS bashing them and insulting them, instead of going against the government itself. They didn't remember that a soldier do what he is told to do.

  • @canuckleful

We can consider ourselves lucky that the situation is not as bad as for America in Vietnam. And the pacifists are not as aggressive or militant as in the 60s and 70s. But if this goes on for another decade it could become a trauma for us Germans as it became for the Americans in Vietnam. No "proper" reasons, no support from your people, how are you supposed to endure all that as a soldier?

  • @DeutscherFilmer3 Excactly. When all you're fighting for is your country, and your country doesn't care, or even opposes you, what's the point? You should be in politics.

  • @canuckleful

Nah thx. ;) I wouldnt feel comfortable bearing the responsibility. But I would support politicians who also consider the life of their soldier as something that cant be just sacrificied only to be able to stay in the UN Security Council permanently.

I have to serve in the army myself in a few days. But just the basic stuff, luckily I will not be sent into combat.

  • @canuckleful wtf! are you talking about? you do know 75% of Americans in Vietnam were Volunteer right.

and the fact that the U.S Military had control of the South and defeated every Commie attack while they were there. the reason the USA left was because of Politics and the media and hippies.

  • @Dogmeat1950 Hallo again! what a surprise to find you here Dogmeat.

Don't lie about vietnam, it was a complete mess, a waste of time (and soldiers) and a good plot for movie making industries (don't take that seriously)

  • They both had a reasonable reason to fight and believed on it... they were inocent young guys mostly, no sistematically-motivated to hate like nowadays, they saw the war as a patriotic a game and after, a job.

It wasn't WW2... This war prooved how can a war be also a sick brainless game.

By the way, your grandfather made history and like every soldier of that war he deserves to be remembered

  • y did he run into the trenches like aretard

  • @StealthyAssassin007 Cause he was pissed off that the Germans just killed a lot of his friends. If you were there, you would have the right to speak like this, but you weren't so fucking show some respect.

  • 0:33

    "HORN"

    "really dead!"

  • Haha.

  • People in Canada like to nick-pick this movie a lot because of the love story and the acting, but I personally like it. The Canadian film industry doesn't have any other film out that's like this one, mainly cause this was done for $20 million and that's a ton of cash for a movie done here.

  • This film deserves a lot of respect. I liked everything about this, specially knowing that there aren't many WW1 films. It's a well made movie with an interesting plot and nobody can't deny it.

  • @TheUnforgivenRebel

Have you seen "A very long engagement"? In my opninion it is even a little better than Passchendaele, because the ca. 1 hour love story part is a bit distracting for a war movie and brings down the pace of the film. The close quarter combat was very good and showed the horror of war, although I cant deny that it seems like the Germans cant fight properly. Furthermore the explosions that send the soldiers spinning around like 1080 degrees seem a little strange.

  • @DeutscherFilmer3 , No I haven't but I searched for some information about it.

Anyway I've seen YOUR war movie Irgendwo and it's very good, I really like movies made by users. Congratulations.

I will search more about "A very long engagement". Thanks!

  • @TheUnforgivenRebel

Thank you for the feedback. Feel free to watch our other films too. Some of them are not yet subtitled, but most of them are.

A very long engagement is also here on youtube. In über-shitty quality, but better than never seeing it. But I highly recommend to buy it on DVD and experience it in appropriate quality. In the American amazon it costs around 12 Dollars.

  • @DeutscherFilmer3 , Don't worry about the subtitles, I speak german too :)

I usually don't use youtube to watch movies because of the quality, if like the bit I see I find the way to get the movie.

    Thanks for the tip.

  • thanks for posting this i own this movie and i think even though it's a bit graphic for children i think all school children should watch this movie especailly with remembrance day coming
