  • Hey everyone. When I play jazz I usually tapeloop myself and play over the top of it making little riffs up and playing little scales which I know sound right together. However this usually begins to sound samey after a while because I cant really improvise too well because I dont know any proper jazz scales or whatever. So can anyone help guide towards improvising freely with scales like this guy.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Mike, great playing as always!

Oh and don't worry about the length of this piece ... i just took a short holyday just to watch this ;-)

You inspire me (and i'm shure lots of others).

  • Great sound !

  • well it came out cool, rob

  • That left hand wishes it was a spider.

  • lovely playing.. can i ask you one question, what key are playing in. cheers. so i can find that scale and try to learn it my self...

  • @FUNKMASTERFOURTWO it's a mix of G minor Dorian, D lydian and some other shit - the last chord is a C#7 so you can play all the related/altered stuff over that - I wasn't really thinking about what I was playing on this too much, just going for it and seeing came out.

  • great playing. it's really inspiring me to pull out my RC2 for a thanksgiving day jam.

  • damn my brother, you are simply cookin on that groove. respect goes out to you as always.

  • are u tuned to tenor tuning? "EADGC"?

  • @thereturnfc no - B- G - check the first few notes i play - that's a low D... but I do have 26 frets so I can play a high A - hoe that helps :-)

  • Good Stuff ! Thumbs Up !

  • Favorite video yet Mike. Doesnt seem like youre moving quite as fast and taking a bit more time on feel than theory and technique. I can dig it.

  • Woooow!!!Nice playin' Man!

  • Thanks for making these videos... watching you play just helps me imagine myself older playing things like this, on a bass as awesome as yours. You're an original inspiration to me, thanks again.
