i am from south africa,and we send out thousands of soldiers out to the DRC every month ,i saw pics of woman getting raped and children being shot in the head by the rebels ,the main cause started because of the diamonds in the congo ,this war is going on because ppl want diamonds hundreds of ppl die a "sauvage" death .if u saw the country 30 years back ,it was a happy,fruitfull country ..i realy hope the (UN) are helping these ppl as they should be ,im gratefull that they sended out so many ,

Peacekeeping is a nice thought, but it simply doesn't work. It requires all belligerents to want peace, which assumes that their leaders would rather compromise than win. The missions are rarely successful, they drag on for decades, and the mandates themselves are usually manipulated by UN veto nations whose interests are affected. In a place like the DRC, you either have to let them fight until they're sick of it, or go in and make peace.
