  • very good!

  • I think this is the best track of the bunch. Everyone should check out the banjo player, Don Vappie. He plays almost every string instrument...a great guitarist, one of New Orleans hardest working.

  • no comment...................

  • big wow

  • Clarinet is the man

  • This is Eric Clapton learning to play the blues

  • 3:46 "just like that..."

  • man, new orleans style is not my kind of thing, but wynton did before, anyway, with clapton, and oh god he did awful things, too, it's somehow i mean awesome, wouldn't like it in any other way. btw: forgot to log out my daughter, she'll hate me for that kind of comment as lil sisz. signed donski8

  • Smooth and mellow I really love it!

  • Some performances make you sing, others make you dance, and a few make you jump and shout...the very best make you just listen....this is one of those performances...I immediately bought the DVD and CD...thank you for sharing..

  • Clapton's tone here is just beautiful

  • Wiki: "Joe Turner was the brother of Pete Turner, who was the governor of Tennessee. He illegally captured freed slaves and runaways and made them work involuntarily for him as a chain gang. Turner represents the evil of the Southern, racist white man."

I suppose that if Joe Turner has been and gone, it's safe to come out of hiding... hence the quiet singing.

  • @fillra01 are you sure that the song isn't about the late great Big Joe Turner?

  • @stefanakisguitar

Hello, stefanakisguitar! I checked the Wikipedia entry for Joe Turner. He was a bad man, no doubt about it.

I agree with you, Big Joe Turner was a brilliant blues shouter. But this song is about the bad Joe Turner, a white gangster, in about 1890. He was also called 'Joe Turney'.

Big Joe Turner recorded the song, "Joe Turner's Blues", but he did not write it. I think WC Handy wrote it.

    (Help, anyone?)

  • @fillra01 thank you. I was completely unaware of the gangster Joe Turner, as well as - though a devoted Big Joe Turner fan - of his recording this song.
