Damn thats a good deal where the hell are those garage sales at? 10 bucks? i crap 10 bucks i just paid 50 for a blast that was in good shape and i thought that was a deal!
i bought th iv back in 94 and ran stock for many years. in 99, i put in 2 19tooth pinnon gears,th up grade motor mounts and 2 trinity 19 turn quartz motors. then fabed water scoops and bolted them to the hull. the top end trippled, motors stay cool and still run her to day. i love this model, runs nice. thinking of going brushless.
hey i have a villain iv too and the steering keeps go to the right and the trim isn't doing anything. i'm not touching the seering stick and it's just slowly turning right on it's own. please tell me if you can help.
@bajadirtman87 If your trim is right then it's your right motor isn't pulling as hard as the left is. I'm sure you've probably figured it out by now though lol.
I think cutting holes in the top was a mistake, I had this boat years ago, and I drilled the heat sinks on the speed controller and motors and fitted aluminum tubes and fish tank air line tubing to circulate water across all hot items. I just bent a piece of tubing into a J shape, ran it out the back and as the boat ran it scooped up water and forced it along the tubing.
Nice video for new rc fans! I just got a villain for cheap too but there is something wrong with it. It's very slow maybe 10mph if I'm lucky. Do you have any idea what could be wrong? Also, wouldn't your cooling idea get water in the hull?
The problem depends on your boat, is it the normal villain, the IV, or the EX. It could be your batteries. Low mah rating or old batteries. Your gear ratio should be 28 drive and 14 pinion. It can be be alittle different than that. Your motors could be old/ shot. Your wire conections might be bad. Your props could be bad. Thats all I can really tell you besides bring it to your nearest hobbystore and ask them about it. Thanks again and I'll be putting another vid up soon.
It is the IV. I know its not the batteries so I sent in the esc for repair because I think thats the problem. But if its not I might have some more questions for you. You should get a video of it running next!
I have a small problem too actually. Well today(5/15/09) I was driving it in my pool like I normaly do and I couldn't stop it in time and it hit the side of the pool. It did like a "boat wheelie" and water must have leeked into the hull and completely drenched, only the speed control. So then it started to run by its self so when I steered it over to me, turned it off and opened the top. Smoke can out. So I think my ESC is broken too.
Well I found out that its aatually not broken. I let it dry out for a day or 2, then put some not conductive rtv silicon stuff(used for waterproofing electronic devices) and it works!!!!! I also water proofed my reciever for fun too. I got some new things for my boat too, so expect a new vid soon.
If it's still too slow, be sure to check the trim angle at the out drive. If the props are too high, they could cavitate and it will run really slow then.
Yardsales where I live never have cool stuff like this.

The vent holes are a waste of time and wetness if you're not going to provide an outlet for all the hot air...

do u have to run boat on dual batteries or just 1 battery at a time?
LordBongSnipa69 1 year ago
@LordBongSnipa69 You can use 1 or 2 batteries, it doesn't matter. But for more speed 2 batteries is the way to go.

Ouch, that sounds bad. New excuse for an upgraded esc now : )

Thats always nice to hear. I did a little waterproofing on my E-maxx because I pulled everything apart to replace an idler gear. Hope it works : )
