Wow, what a great screen test and only 16 years old? Very impressive for such a young girl. Anne was a really great actress, and I don't think she got her just dues. But when she is on the screen, she's a scene stealer. I was very mesmerized by her acting here, but I'm sure they felt she was too young for the role. I'm bet this test helped her in furthering her career and the roles she eventually got.
The nose looks differfent than later, it's a pug nose, darling actually. But, yes, she is far too cute to do the part and too young. But already an adept actress who tells so much when she doesn't even have lines. That face was always so expressive. She never liked the way she looked; felt her neck was too short. Which was nonsense. She was always beautiful, poised and above all shiningly intelligent.
I was quite impressed with this screen test. She did an excellent job and was very believable. It's hard to believe she was only 16, when she did this screen test.
Annie - odly enough - brings maturity to the part .... would be very weird if Hitch used all 3 - Annie/Vivling and Joan ... different storyline .... Max would really be insane .....hmmmmm.
Her biggest hurdle was the fact that she was 16 (!) years old. She did so well considering that. I find her VERY impressive here, though it's hard to forget Fontaine in the role (and Mrs. DeWinter wasn't supposed to be particularly attractive.)
Wow, I would have voted for her.

She could've been a very convincing Mrs de Winter, but perhaps too intense. Fontaine was the perfect choice, plus a more attractive woman.
