  • I was one of the first to arrive - about a week early. A pal and I from Boston were hitchhiking through the area, got picked up by someone whose told us about the concert. His friend was helping to build the stage. He drove right up to the stage and dropped us off there. Got my picture in the local paper. An amazing week until the people started to show up, then it got a bit heavy. Sound check was great. Skinny dipping in the Gorge was nice. This is the first video I've seen. Great memories.

  • Nothing against people today, but back then a whole lot of people could get together under rather uncomfortable conditions, and keep it together it for a couple of days. But still there are still pockets of that vibe these days - Philly Folk Fest for example.

  • Got there a day early, already a couple hundred thousand people there. So each band soundchecked for several hours. It was the mellowest evening I've ever seen. The next day was the actual show - blazing hot, then it poured. That night we had to walk into town, while all 3 bands jammed on Mountain Jam. Rode some car hoods out of town, where the mob of people thinned out a bit, and miraculously the two of us got a ride home. I was caked in mud up to my thighs. When I got home, I slept 18 hours.

  • SWEET ,wish i could of been there!

  • I am so happy to have found this video of the Watkins Glen concert in '73! I was there and 10 feet from stage left for the whole thing! Drove up by myself in my parents Chevy Impala station wagon with an 8 track playin' Eat A Peach, etc. from the Princeton, NJ area. Wow, folks, it was truly amazing! :^)

  • All you first generation jam band fans should see Phish - Watkins Glen - 2011 and see if you think the torch was passed appropriately. We sure as hell could never get 600K, but we gave it a try. My Dad was at summer jam; I was at Superball.

  • Amazing thanks for doing this.

  • awesome

  • I was at the Watkins Glen show, and saw both the sound checks and the actual concert. It was very hot on the day of the show, and the Grateful Dead were almost unbearable. An hour of the Dead is interminable, can you imagine how bad four hours on a sweltering afternoon must have been? Someone died flying a parachute into a sound tower during the Band's set, but it was hard to figure it all out at the time. The Band were brilliant, as were the Allman Brothers. All in all a great memory. Thanks!

  • I paid ten bucks for one ticket and found another ticket stuck to it, Two cases of beer were gone after six hours in traffic, Don't remember much after that, then we went home, I live and hour away and grew up there and new all the back roads, The pool in the stream at the upper park was full of naked girls we were to drunk to even stop. Great time was had by all 600,000.

  • Always found it strange no offical video was made of an event so big.

  • long lines of traffic,.. but wonder filled time. Best $10 I ever spent.

  • Applause!
