  • i love the whistle in that beast

  • that 24v does sound good i like how he put a gear splitter on it

  • @MSGMITCHELLWILSON its an exhaust brake but i do wish it had a splitter

  • Cant find it? Grind it!

  • nice truck thats what real trucks are made for

  • i'd like a used 12 vavle so the previous owner couldn't chip em, what is the red thing on the shifter?

  • @snorkelinatv08 exhaust brake

  • @Hotrodx199 woulda been cooler if that was a split rear axle haha, be able to tow alot more weight

  • when your haulin somthing like that fold your mirrors up so you can see better

  • im gettin ready to buy a cummins n i pull cows n horses. how do u like urs

  • @wranglerboy3242 its not ours it was a friend of ours, but i'd recommend a 12 valve.

  • @Hotrodx199 curious! why recommend a 12 valve? I have a 04 common rail dually and I love the power, slightly more fuel burn compared to a older 12 valve but not much more! Don't get me wrong I think the older 12 vavles are great but lots of 24 valve and HPCR for roughly the same money for sale.

  • @katana1150 I just have had nightmares with our last 24 valve and the money we spent into that thing could of got us a first gen cummins. I mean its easier to make power with a common rail because you just plug it in, but i just love mechanical diesels. They are easy to work on and no electronics to go wrong

  • @Hotrodx199 Ahhh yes I hear ya on that one! The cummins is great but once things start to go wrong it can get expensive real fast. I am a member of the cummins forum and I read some of the horror stories and it scares the hell outa me. So far mine has been problem free but that might be because I follow the maintenance schedule religiously

  • anyone know for how much can i get a single cab 6 speed cummins?

  • thats a bitchen truck :D CUMMINS POWER BABY!!

  • I love my 6.7 but it's hard to beat the sound of the 5.9s.

  • My dads 03 24v does smoke with no mods

  • you gotta high and low gear diff in that thing?

  • @nineohtwo No exhaust brake.

  • @Hotrodx199 whats an exhaust brake?

  • @joeldude76 An exhaust brake closes the exhaust and causes backpressure on the engine and slows it down. It is sort of like the jake brake but operates in the exhaust. The red button on the shifter is probably the control. The exhaust brake did not come standard on that model but could be added. It really helps slow the truck and load down and really saves on the wear and tear of the brakes. Not sure when it became a standard feature but it was standard on my 09 2500 but not on my 05 2500.

  • @scotty1045 oh yeah my dads 04 2500 doesnt have it

  • learn to drive a stick

  • @73dieselsmoke obviously he knows how u stupid fuck, just dont talk, u wouldnt know the first thing about that, so stfu, ergagent little twat.

  • @MrMicas101 ooh you sure did put me in my place, i drive truck for a living but it goes to show im sooo ignorant that i dont remember to grind gears...pretty sad you want to be like everyone on here and start a arguement and be the internet badass.

  • are you hauling in Oregon?

  • @Hotrodx199 what is the thing on the shifter?

  • @Hotrodx199 why didnt yall use yalls 2500 cummins?

  • so sweet!!!

  • cant find em grind em

  • I'd love to see a Tundra do this.

  • that sounds very 6BT like, i have the 6BT with alison A545 auto in my dennis dart!!!

  • How many horses does the trailer hold?

  • why the hell am I watching this lol

  • it smokes because of the weight and the chip not the exhaust

  • the 12vs are better

  • YARRRR!!! great video...what was the red knob on the shift...park break or something? the ol cummins sure likes to haul.

  • On here it's the jake brake i'm assuming..some guys who put them on their pickups mount the button there to make it look like an old gear splitter i guess! Nice vid btw

  • lets hear some of that exhaust brake

  • how does an exhaust brake work on a regular pickup? and yo uneed to flip them mirrors up. classic cummins look

  • Yeah they look like a towing rig with the mirrors up lol.

  • a cummins IS a towing rig.

  • Its a butterfly valve placed in the exhaust stream regulated to provide a certain backpressure. Do a search on exhaust brakes, like BD or Pacbrake, and you'll see clearly what they're made of.

On the newer trucks with a variable geometry turbine all that is done is some programming changes to choke the turbine size down and provide the same restriction.

  • nice sounds like a big rig!!! i love the sound!! im looking for a nice diesel! like a ford powerstroke , or a dodge with a cummins or a chevy duramax! how much would a truck like this cost like the same year with all the upgrades??? i love this truck!

  • ah a older cummins (nothink wrong with old) more proven. they should get u back a good 15 grand to get into. then add 8 grade for lots of mods. lift wheels tires power upgrades. exc

  • nice truck where in eastern oregon are you located.

  • It's several different clips. Beginning was like 15 miles away from Lakeview, and near the end was close to Willamette pass.

  • I live in southern Oregon near medford

  • Can't find'em grind'em !!!!

  • @tempstow haha thats a terrible idea!

  • what he got for an aux tranny on this beast

  • its an exhaust brake not an aux tranny i wish haha.

  • i thought that after I posted that lol.

  • @woodman1241 dude lol i had a gear vendor in my 93 dodge 3500 4x4 cummins thing was a beast lol hahaha reminded me of driving a semi if i split all gears lol

  • that soulds HOT!

  • Is this in AZ? Road looks familiar

  • No, it's in eastern oregon actually.

  • I'm impressed with the fuel economy you got while pulling them ponies. But riddle me this- was that fuel economy achieved in direct drive, or top gear?

  • looks like it was in 6th gear, my auto gets about the same mileage (hand calculated) 17.5ish empty, and 15.5 under tow.

The RPM's seem about right for 5th and 6th gear, should run about 2100 in 5th and about 1750 in 6th.

  • this does 2000 in 6th going 55/60.

  • Ahh, i have the 4 speed auto with 3.55's, so i was just giving a rough estimate using what ive sceen on my truck, does that have the 3.55's or 4.10's?

  • 4:10s

  • does that splitter actually work?

  • If you are talking about that red handle on the shifter it's not a splitter, it's for an exhaust brake. I have an identical one from BD Diesel for my exhaust brake.

  • haha you and i had he same idea i thought that was a splitter too

  • whats the difference between the 12v and 24v

  • 12v has 12 valves instead of 24 valves and 12 valves are all mechanical where the 24 valve is an electronic motor.

  • is an exhaust brake like a jake brake?

  • Kind of but it gives it a lot of back pressure not releasing the compression in the cylinder.

  • you could pull a house on its side with that thing! awesome!

  • it aint good to put them chips and shit in especially when it and atoumatic because your adding power that you tranmission cant handle and it fuck up your timing and you shifts will be off

  • Unless you're adding TONS of of that stuff it won't do anything to the vehicle other that help it out a lot.

  • only applies to autos, and then you can drop about 3,800 and get a 47re tranny that will handle 500HP 1,000lbs of tq.

  • that does happen with mine then i tap on the odomiter just right then strarts to shift right again The toruge lock fliped on the off positon though.I'm learning it though

  • thats like my truck's big brother

  • exhaust brake?

  • Yes. When engauged it puts all sorts of backpressure to the motor slowing it down.

  • before all the filter shit im getting 23 mpgs with my cummins its a 07 6 speed but i got the 3.73s great truck

  • Beast.

  • What's that thing on the shifter?

  • Exhaust brake.

  • haha! I would like to see a ford or a chevy pulling a load like that and getting 17 miles per gallon... i doubt they get that even when unloaded lol!

  • 17 mpg loaded is something to be proud of. I know someone that has around the same year dodge as this that is a 3500, auto, stock 24v and it only gets like 16 unloaded and i think it has 3:55 rears. This has 4:11 and still gets good mileage. It seems that these may get better mpg on 4:11. Maybe the peak torque is at high rpms? It turns about 2k going 55.

  • The manual transmission equipped trucks benefited from more stock power and other modifications that I can't remember lol.

  • nice truck just got a 07 5.9 before they dpf filtered it. nice truck i also got the 6 speed myself

  • Really neat transmissions! At least they will hold up to some extra power unlike the autos they used in the 90s... hahaha

  • Can you post another driving video like this? :)

  • I can try maybe in the future, i dunno though.

  • even though its stock exhaust I still love that engine sound.

  • Post more! Then with the exhaust brake sound!:D

  • Well, it's not too much of a sound, the difference you will hear is that when you downshift, the engine is louder then it is when it's off.

  • Ok : D

  • im in diesel at my tec school and we take care of the busses and ya some busses got the same 5.9s as dodge trucks

  • I love the sound of the earlier 24v's, they sound more aggresive.

  • Are you talking about the 24 valves sounding better then the common rails? Is that what you mean? Yes i agree with you.

  • sounds like some of our school buses

  • DOUBLE CLUTCH

  • What's the story with the two speed?

  • He asked if that button on the shift column was a 2 speed rear, it's actually an exhaust brake.

  • 10-4....we're gonna need a vid of that also....

  • Unfortunately the video got overtaped on my camera.

  • Your absolutely right. I own one of these trucks and the exhaust brake is typically mounted on the shifter.

  • Haul some more ponies for us and get the same camera man! More up hill as well! :)

  • That's all the footage i have at the moment. Gotta love the turbo whine while climbing hills.

  • Nice Truck..

  • Dude if he runs that chip and doesnt get a aftermarket high volume fuel lift pump hes gonna burn up his injection pump. the injections pumps on the 24 valve trucks like having a lot of fuel running to them, ive burned up the injector pump on my 2001 2 times, got a 200,000 miles on it. tell him to look into a FASS 100 lift pump.

  • Probably the reason for them burning up is because of the engine heat. Did the same thing to our truck and it's stock. They placed it inside the fuel tank and it has been doing good ever since. It was a common problem on the 24v cummins.

  • No im talking about the injection pump on the driver side of the engine, its a Bosch VP44 pump its the heart of any diesel engine.

The lift pump is what you had put in the fuel tank? thats good because its probably a aftermarket one that flows more fuel. all i was trying to say was the LIFT PUMP goes bad and then the INJECTION PUMP is starved of fuel and "burns up".If you are running a chip i think you should have a high volume fuel pump supplying fuel to the injection pump just my 2 cents:)

  • Well as much as this guy puts money into his truck, he might get one someday. One thing he needs to do is get rid of the stock exhaust and open it up at least to a 4 or 5". The reason it's smoking because of all the back pressure from the muffer is not letting the turbo spool up quick enough causing it to spit out a cloud of smoke.

  • smokes nothing bad when hauling, its just the nature of a diesel. sometimes its cool but its actually a good sign on this truck the injection pump is still good :D

  • That's the pickup i want! Did i a gear grinding? lol!

  • Yeah, well on the 6th speed the gears are so close together that there's been people who drove this before that went from 2nd to 5th before.

  • Nice truck! Is that a 2 speed axle switch on the shifter? Does it have a 2 speed rear end?

  • No that's for the exhaust brake. I wish. That would make it a 6+2 which would make it basically a 12 speed in a 1 ton pickup.

  • Cummins hauling ass well more then one ass XD
