Hzt Amir Khusro was never a Qawwal, but a renowned poet , during the time of HZT Nizammuddin Aulai, a desciple of Pak Pattan sherief, of the order of Chistia. And more imp , it was Hzt Khwaja garib Nawaz, who had invented Qwalli, but not in this form, It had no music, saaz, but were added by his followers, like Ameer khusra.

My favourite by far has definitely got to be Aziz Mian, a true aashiq of Maula Ali (alayhis salam)

nice but i like Sabri Brothers and NFAK best. Aziz mians other philosophical qawwalies are nice but not Man kunto maula

i am a big fan of sufi kalam n a big fan of Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan but hard to pick any one as they all are so gud wen its come on "man kunto maula" specially sabri brothers.

My Favourite is Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan because he does a great alap, trana and much clear.

There is where the problem lies. Qawwali is not about tarana, alap or sargam. The primary purpose for which the qawwali was designed was to preach the teachings of Islam through music (secondary conduit). Hence the primary focus in the qawwali must be on the kalam and the music should be secondary one. From this perspective only Aziz Mian is the person who did justice with Qawwali. He was double masters. He was the only qawwal who was a true thinker, philosopher and a poet.

Yes ..... Nusrat can be thought of as a very good musician and a legendary singer. As far as qawwali is concerned, according to me Aziz Mian and Sabri Brothers were far ahead of him and had already earned the world of fame before nusrat started to become popular in the early 90s.

@Balraj50 jaroori nahin ki acche nusrat sahab hon sab ki pasand alag hai or sath sath singer ke mukable kawwal badi cheez hai singer mein aur kawwal mein bahut fark hai siger singer aur kawwal kawwal hota hai aur kawwali mein aziz miyan and sabri bros hi shehensha rahenge baki classical aur singing ki baat alag hai
