  • @b250xrider well the truck at the local strip here did 0-73 mph in 5.6 seconds with a bad launch. a 400rwhp supercharged fox 5.0 does 5.7 @ 68mph, the truck weighs more then double .

  • its around 850ish, but remember that trucks are built for towing, not racing, so the gears are different. thats a 4x4 also, so its all towing......just because its not as fast as an 850hp drag car, does not mean it does not have 850is HP. gearing is a lot when it comes to speed......hp plays a smaller part.

  • That's actually surprising. I have an '02 7.3 and I raced my friends 99 Cummins and I stomped the shit out of him. The only after market parts were chips and both of our trucks had them.

    The truck is currently running a set of BD R-800's.

    Your 62 and Smarty are a long way from being competitive. With the big injectors the motor sucked my old Fass 150 to 7psi.

    The MITUSA is the only real pump for a high perf Cumminsdiesel.

    Malcolm had the truck ripping so hard it would spin all 4 tires (way more power than in the video)...Going down the highway!

    Then I drove over the camshaft (literally) and had massive failures twice...Too much for the motor so we backed it down.

    None of the failure were Malcolm's fault yet he treated me exceptionally. Malcolm is first class in every respect.

    You ever drop by the shop?

    Its only about 650Hp or so right now....Still pretty quick.

  • @onecylanderracer not really.. if you compare the two to more than just straight line performance.. cummins sound way better compared to fords sounding like a frickin butterfly flap is stuck in their exhaust, they get far better fuel mileage, start amazingly without being plugged in (which you shouldnt even waste your time trying to defend because its just a pure fact), and the inline 6 setup, whether is small little engines or big bore engines is plain and simply more reliable than any v series

    If you could make 920hp by a cam and "marine pump" everyone would be Doing so. You probaly dont even own a diesel because cams and nitrous do not work the way they do on gas engines. Anyone who knows something about diesels knows that. But one day you may understand.

  • Nitrous doesn't work that way on a diesel engine noob.

    All Nitrous does in a diesel is provide enough oxygen to burn remaining fuel. With the Flux 6.2's and dual stage 3 CP3's (not shown in the vid) there is plenty left over in my setup. Nitrous does advance timing and 12V motors with lots of fuel and lots of timing get hurt when using huge nitrous because they cant back off the timing like you can on a common rail.

    Cams don't contribute 1 HP to a diesel setup noob......your a troll

    Surely u werent meaning that a different cam grind for more lift and duration is pointless? extra duration can be a waste of time if the duration is to long as diesels cant rev to well, but u can buy performance cams for em.

    I saw a mad cam kit by piper for a small citroen HDi- peak power was over 6000rpm! u can even get big rig racing cams!!

  • It has a F-1 racing cam...No horsepower gain, but better turbo response and better drivability with the twin turbos.

    Diesels need more fuel to make more power and (this is hard to understand for a gas guy) the fuel delivered sets the amount of boost delivered....Let tha fry your brain!

  • some diesel cams have less intake duration than the NA opnes, I know they do on my engine type at least, the intake has 20 degrees less!

    Yes It makes more boost the more u fuel it as the more u fuel it the more exhaust pressure u make, up to the limits of wastegate of course, I had a car, pump was fucked so it never reached boost so wastegate seized, I fixed pump, luckily fitted boost guage as I was getting 25psi rather than the standard 15! more off boost fuelling really reduces lag to.

  • I added the cam to assist in drivability. The F-1 cam was very successful here. From a dead stop (at light throttle) the truck builds 10psi boost before crossing an intersection.

  • @tpvalley I mean no measurable gain in peak horsepower. Revs (on my truck) are controlled digitally by the ecm so cams have no effect here either. The Smarty TNT(R) programmer that I am running does allow the engine to rev to 4000 rpm, but the ecm starts pulling fuel at about 3400rpm.

    Mechanical diesels can rev higher than a new dodge, but all street ability is lost.

    My wastegate is pinned shut. No need for a gate on a well designed street turbo set.

    BD really knows their stuff.

  • After breaking a few billet shafts and roaching a few (unnamed transmissions) I upgraded to to one of Dave's Ultimate's with 1.5 billet shafts.

    The 5.9 normally makes max power at 3600rpm but engine build issues and a blown headgasket refused to let it rev higher. As mentioned below in this condition the truck made 1860ftlbs and 830Hp @ 2000rpm

  • As mentioned below the truck made 1860ftlbs and 830Hp @ 2000rpm ....With a blown headgasket and some fuked up valve train issues......

    Max power comes at 3600Rpm and I still have the NX-2 stage with 2 500hp shots.

    Sorry, but there isn't a 7.3 made that makes this sort of RWHP.

    My 60 foot times are low 1..5's

    I needed to take a break from the devil truck for a while and deal with some life and career issues. The economy managed to devastate a business partner of mine causing its fair share of "issues".

    I plan to take the truck to Sound hounds and have the AV system finished in the next week or so and also looking at having some custom paint work done.

    We should get a few cameras and go hunting sports cars. I love this crap!

  • I work as an engine machinist the 7.3 navistar and the older 5.9 cummins 12 valve are the only two I would consider owning. All the diesles out there are good when properly maintained, but when you start hot roding them shuchas chiping them and getting crazzier than that you are going to go thrue a lot of money fast. I have the opertunity to work on diesle tractor pulling heads that are quad turbo setups in exccess of 2300 Hp and the life expectancy for that 30 thousand $ + engine is 15 minutes.

  • The motor was twisting off regular billet trans parts regularly so a $10,000.00 Ultimate was installed.

    Turbos, head/headwork, injectors, fuel system, and all the other misc hardware were another $30,000.00.-$40,000.00

    If you add up blown motors and everything the number is pretty sick.

    The video shows the truck running with small (flux 3.3) injectors at around 750hp on sticky 35" Yokohama rubber (I have lots of 1.65 60 foot time slips). I wasn't trying to do a burnout.

  • Love cummins, love diesel power in general, but I have a hard time believing that thing is pushing 850+hp. That kind of power WILL smoke the tires through 40 mph in 2wd. If it is, how about telling us what it's actually got. After all, aren't you proud of it? It probably took $15000 to get there. If it is that powerful, kudos to you.

  • The best turbo setup is dictated by you ultimate power requirements...Too big is useless ...too small will run too hot.

    I run the BD R-850, but I have also run the smaller twins. The are tightly setup (spool quick) and work very well...As you can see!

  • That 350 next to him wasnt even trying to keep up and he easily did. Put as much money into a "ricer" as that thing and it will be faster.

  • The 350Z wasn't even close...Look at the vid carefully and you can see I got a few lengths ahead before I let off...And yes the 350Z was in for all he could...The look on his face was worth the investment in the truck!

    Also...Don't forget this is with the small injectors, mild tune, no nitrous and 35" tall tires (I have a set of 305 20's that loose way over 100 pounds of unsprung weight).

    You can make a 350Z faster than my truck, but it will cost more than I have spent (my son likes them)!

    Got it back together and blew the motor.

    We should peak around 900hp at 3600rpm before we hit the nitrous...I'm running two 500hp stages.

    With the big injectors the truck has enough power to spin all 4 tires (4wheel drive) at 60mph...Lots of fun!

    I like 911TT's and Vettes the best!

  • 5 pounds when the motor blew....The boost is not what blew the motor.....We had a valevetrain problem.

    The truck builds about 110psi with the big injectors and 85psi with the small sticks....Blows your mind the first time you see the 100psi gauge pinned! LOL!
