you seem to know a lot about this and i would apriaciate a lot if you give me a web page or soemthing were to acquire some more information about this because i am doing a school paper about the crisis but i am not able to find the causes anywhere. hope you help, thank you very much
there are a great many good resources on this. Nightline has a good documentary on the people and situations. Jeff Jarvis has a wonderful animation (google, you'll find it). And there are lots of good books and other articles. It's the same explanation (mostly) from everyone at this point.
We overvalued something (and lied about it to sustain it).
I have researched this crisis...your analysis is excellent. What perplexes me is why the FED and the SEC couldn't see this coming. Did they really expect the housing bubble to expand into perpetuity? Did they not see the sub prime-mortgage-based securities sold all over the world? How could they be oblivious to the $1 qaudrillion in credit default derivatives? I don't think you have to be paranoid to smell a rotten fish in this crisis. How could this not be intentional?
Thanks. I think as of last December, maybe more, a lot of people saw this coming. The problem was that there was little we could do about it.
The latest change in SEC rules for bank capitaliztion was in 2004, and it takes a while for the government to catch up, particularly when they take the stance that regulation is a bad thing.
I tend to go with the maxim of "that which is often attributed to malice is usually just plain ignorance." Bush's and Cheney's, in this case.
You're fired!!!

Indeed. That was the part I was talking about with the "new things that no one knew how to value".
Turns out everybody loved 'em, as you could pass 'em around and make some bank.
