The germans nicknamed the sherman the "Tommy cooker" the allied soldiers called it the "Ronson" because of an advert for the lighters that said it lit everytime. Operation watch on the Rhine as the germans called it was no mere raid and was the last major German offensive in the west and used battle hardened units transfered from the eastern front as well as paratroops. The aim was to capture the port of antwerp and split the allied armies in two.

The Sherman was no match for the Panzers, German shells from their high velocity 75mm and 88mm guns would go through the Sherman like a hot knife through butter. Thus hundreds of shermans were destroyed in the Battle of The Bulge, unfortunately for the American crewmen whom nicknamed it The Purple Heart Box. The German's nicknamed The Sherman the Ronson, named after the cigarette lighter, because it would light up and explode after just one shot from a panzer tank.

The western allies never fought against the best german Army units.

In Normandie only against two division: Das Reich and Leibstandarte

In the Ardennes the 40% of the german army were sailors and men from luftwaffe

And in North Afrika, for Hitler was always secondary front. The Afrika Krops and the 5th Panzer Army were strong, but with out resources...

@mamonycabron The Allies fought against Panzer Lehr, 116th, 9th, 2nd, 21st 1 SS, 2SS, 9SS, 10SS, 12SS Panzer Divisions and 17SS PzG In Normandy.

USAAF and RAF strategic bombing campaigns alone over NW europe and Germany besides breaking the back of the luftwaffe, forced the wehrmacht to redirect resources and fighters into the interior of Germany for homeland defense. Instead of fighters, men and artillery going to eastern front these resources and material were unavailable. Check Reich Minister for armaments Albert Speer quote - "..,homeland defense consumed 1/3 of Germanys' war effort."

Shows on average, even with superior materiale, the average American soldier performed significant worse than the average German soldier. More cases of stress related casualties (cowards) than the Germans ever had.

@PrometheanRunGood whatever, dude.German troops are fighting in Afghanistan. Let's look at Sept.4 2009 ' airstrike called in by German troops on the ground at Kunduz in the north of Afghanistan that A NATO report said the ensuing fireball caused up to 142 deaths.

A report by Germany’s Bild newspaper that said aerial videos and a secret military report clearly indicated civilians had been killed in the airstrike, even though the then-defense minister was denying it.

@mamonycabron The western allies fought against the SS 1st panzer division in market garden who were on relief from the russian front and were battle hardenend veterans with jagdpanthers, pathers, tigers and kingtigers.

the leibstandarte? I don't think so wasn't de 1 SS pz, there were the 10th and 9th ( Frundsberg and Hohenstaufen)

In defense of the regular German. Engineers and scientists rarely very nazis to the word. National Socialist as Hitler intended it is very complex and sick ideal.

It really wasn't Germany disability to produce new models that failed it in the end, it was her limited time, material and workers. Hitler requested too many superweapons. You may assume that building completely new, hard-to-build superheavy models wasn't easy. They required seperate factories, workers, transport and crews.

@thc024 Actually they came very close, it is now apparent that the Germans would have had a nuclear weapon by 1946 and would have probably had it earlier if not for the Norweagian Commandos who sabbatoged a Heavy Water plant in Norway
