Kaieteur was named after the legendary old Kaie, an Amerindian Cheif who sailed over the falls to his death to bring favorable weather to his tribe that in order for their crops to grow and prosper. They were experiencing hard times. BTW, I am a Guyanese who happened to have been trained by Captain Chan-A-Sue (Channa)
