Damnation album by opeth (in my time of need, hope leaves, and windowpane are the saddest.) switchblade symphony depending on the song its more dark than depressing but it might be what your looking for. Some Ninch Inch nails songs ("all I could have been" is a fucking awesome song.) Tearjerker by korn is a really good one. I got alot more where that came from if you like those.

Silent Hill 1-4 and Resident Evil 1-3 were games that had you nearly wanting to shut off the console because of how scary they were. They left you scared even days after you were done playing. All of today's "Scary" games are all about shock/jump moments, they don't really do the job that the classics did.

At the same time, SH3 can make you really frightened simply because you got similar character to Heather. This game is really about psychology. You can't judge any game of this series, because every is unique and should not be compared to each other :)

Silent Hill 4 while not the best was a good game, the ideas were better than the gameplay I think and I also think that was the main problem with the game, I mean you think of being trapped in your room/house/apartment or whatever and it is a scary idea and then the haunting and creepy hole in the bath room, its amazing in concept but its execution was flawed in my opinion.

On a side note I think the hold getting bigger each mission was very creepy :P
