I don't think many people nowdays would call someone a Jap but it is an interesting observation, no? Kind of the same thing when referring to Germans as "krauts". I wonder if 50 years from now we will still refer to Iraqis between 2003-2011 as "Hajjis".

If you only knew how graciously kind the japs were to their POWs during tht time and before. I mean, just for starters read about the 1937 Massacre in Nanking by these conscientious sympathetic Japanese soldiers You have to consider time and place on these things and learn to cut some slack on those deeply affected by it. but perhaps you don't care as long as what they did to hundreds of thousands of their victims didn't affect you, making the japs your dearest friends

@Toyman1982 the answer is far simpler - there were 2 theatres of War, and 2 completely different agendas as to how to portray both enemies to the public. It's also simply not true that "..it was always the Japanese.." portrayed in propaganda cartoons. Spend 5 mins trawling google/youtube to find anti-german/nazi cartoons. then there is youtube dot com/watch?v=rONxTjrpnVQ&featur­e=related which is a very early attempt at anti-racism, such as it was.
