this would make a awsome front sub. cuz it can take a lot of power and be in a small box(at least that's what i am guessing if it's an 8"). how big would a sealed or a ported box be for this sub?
@ 16-18 seconds into the video, you can tell where the distortion starts, and if you look at the excursion at that point before it starts, it's quite impressive. For that much poewr in free-air, that seems to hold very well. Even after it's pushed, it holds well. Great sub, guys.
Is that flapping sound bad? At 18s there is a distinct sound change and at 28s it is practically flapping. New to subwoofers. Comments please? Thanks.
No, there is no regular lead slap (Brandon is joking in the video). They are flat, pressed on, and tied down leads. The cone can actually move far enough to tap where they come off the spider and attach to the terminal (over 20mm one way). We have an SAZ-1500D on it and that track drops to 20 Hz.
If you hold a camera with a crappy mic near any woofer it sounds like that. Also, at around 18 seconds I cranked the 1500D up pretty high on it - which shows a bit of mechanical noise as the cone taps on the lead termination to the terminals.

Yes, it is getting noisy -- we have it on a 1500-watt amp free air and I am pushing it WELL past what it should be doing after 18 seconds.

400 RMS rated. In the video we had our SAZ-1500D on it at 1 ohm - substantially more than rated power with no enclosure.
