I had to sing this song for a recital, but the version by Frank Sinatra wasn't the right one, and months later I found this, the only version with the intro.
I love how they did this song again in Barkleys of Broadway. It is my favorite part of that movie. This song is just pure beauty. I think it encompasses a lot of Fred and Ginger's relationship.
When George Gerswin died, his last words were Fred Astaire. Ira Gerswin held his death inside, but when Fred came to pay his respects at George's funeral, Ira broke down and cried. They loved Fred to sing their songs. At a dedication to George, Fred sang this song, meaning, they can't take away Fred's and everyone else who was there, their memory of George from them.
George Gershwin died just before this film came out. Ira said when he saw it and heard Fred sing this song it was very comforting to him and he knew George would have been very happy with how it turned out.
One of the most romantic moments put on film. This song is simply beautiful. "The way you changed my life. No they can't take that away from me." Watch Ginger's face when he sings that line. I get the chills.
A very tender moment was missed when Ginger and Fred did not dance to this song but it was rectified in Barkleys of Broadway. Ginger and Fred have the last laugh as they are the most romantic and endearing couple of the silver screen. They will live on forever as we continue to travel along with them as they struggle to make sense of love and romance. We rejoice in their joy of finding it together by the end of the journey.
@narutobgirl2594 Yes, it was heartbreaking in Shall We Dance and Endearing in Barkleys of Broadway. George and Ira Gershwin new Ginger and Fred and this song is about their relationship as is Let's Call the Whole Thing Off.
This opening I miss so much! I'd only heard of it in "Love Labour's Lost" before. What movie is this from?
