  • Absolutely awesome!

  • if you think the guy with the yamulke is the only Jew in bluegrass you better not have a pig roast at a bluegrass festival !!!

  • I don't normally listen to bluegrass, but this is one heck of performance.

  • Sure would like to know who the fiddler from Kentucky Thunder was! I'd like to hear more from him. He makes it look so easy! The two Cherryholmes fiddling kids are great too. I've followed the Cherryholmes family since their debut at Huck Finn Festival years ago.

Andy Statman composed the beautiful Flatbush Waltz - he is brilliant!

  • That'll work.

  • what the fuck a jewish cowboy on the banjo

  • @deathheadunitss

    What is wrong with that?

  • Does anyone else find a woman on a violin (viola) just darned sexy?

  • andy statman is an observant jew who plays mandolin and clarinet amazingly. i really respect him for sticking to his observance: he won't perform/play or travel oh the sabbath (friday night-till sat sundown). i met him once. he loves all kinds of music from bluegrass to jazz. a really sincere guy who is devoted to G-d first.

  • SWEET! That is so cool. Thanks for posting!! My 10-year-old brother is learning this piece; I dare you to find a better group of musicians for him to listen to!

  • Awesome!

  • lol plus the Jewish guy on mandolin, not something you see everyday in bluegrass music lol

  • The Jewish Guy on mandolin is Andy Statman. The other mandonlinists on that stage would admit in a heartbeat that he is the greatest mandonlin player in the world. He trained himself in Bluegrass mandolin as a teenager and was considered one of the greatest even back then. He then trained himself on woodwinds, and even studied with Adolph Sandole, who taught John Coltrane.

In his 20's he became interested in Klezmer music, which led him to become a Hassidic Jew. Google him.

  • I first starting learning mandolin from a self-tech book by Statman, cool guy.

  • The best in the world ? please.

  • You're right, that's a silly claim.

On the other hand, he is very much on par with Bill Monroe, Jesse McReynolds and Bobby Osborne, both for the depth of his expression and for his explosive originality.

  • thanks for the info!

  • thats a real good banjo picker ...(the girl) never seen a girl play that good ....i mean it isnt common

  • when did william golden leave the oak ridge boys

  • I have met the Cherryholmes family. And if you ever did,you surely wouldnt be bashin! They are some of the nicest people youd ever want to meet. And why compare who's better than who? I dont see anybody gettin kicked off the stage! And I'll tell you something else...Cia Lee is,in my opinion,as good as ANY female vocalist out there. I LOVE to hear that gorl sing!!

  • Rednecks in action

  • ur a moron

  • im not gonna lie jim mills is a bad ass banjo picker, and he has a very unique style, but there is no need to bash cia lee cherryholmes pickin she is one of the best out there, ooh and did i mention she can SING!!! so lay off cia lee

  • i agree with you 100%, banjoguy. cia is one of the best out there. she can really pick and she has a beautiful voice and writes great songs. i notice alot of people bashin her on here and for the life of me i cant figure out why. shes awesome!

  • Andy statman Rocks... Baruch Hashem

  • oh my gosh dude my band has to learn that before this october? wow i need some more practice ugh, nice video!

  • Listen to the actual mp3 of this with the bass turned all the way up. It's hilarious.

  • AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5

  • Again there are people getting into stupid arguments in the comments. Shut up and enjoy the music! It's hot! Nuff said!

  • yeah so are their fingers and picks after getting done with the song

  • whooo...watching this one time makes me bounce off the walls! Cia is awesome!!

  • But he never does take a solo, the dude in the cowboy hat does. My bad.

  • Sure a bunch of good pickin goin on there! Pick the Chet right out of it Atkins!

  • is thet cody kilby on the second guitar solo

  • Yeah, that's cody standing right there behind that pole haha.

  • too bad hes b ehind the pole. the other guys solo was weak

  • Well, being a bluegrass musician of several years, and being inspired by jazz, blues, swing, country, rock, and a host of other music styles. Bluegrass seems to me to be the only music that has retained most of it's heritage and comes purely from the heart. The only place (that I can tell) rap seems to come from is from the stains on the inside of most perverts pants. (both ends)

  • fighting about which genre of music is worse is a waste of time!

listen to what u want, and don't tell others what to listen to!

if u don't like it, get da fuck outta here!

  • nope, wrong, aint nothin worse than rap, this might be shit (to you) it sure as hell aint my bag but, there`s not a `nigga` or `ho` to be heard, and they can actually play instruments, and sing too, (unlike rap)

aint nothin worse than rap my man- music for retards!!

  • well your a dueche bag

  • RAP TAKES NO TALENT ITS MUSIC FOR FAGS

  • I agree, right on!!!

  • So you felt compelled to find a clip of Bluegrass for the soul purpose of posting a negative clip. Loser.

  • I'm laughing my yankee butt off reading these posts about who's better at pickin. IT'S BLUEGRASS! that's the beauty of this music. Everybody contributes to the mix. It's like mountain jazz. Everybody has a shared part in the whole song. Geeze are ya'll retarded?

  • great

  • So much talent .Ilove BLUEGRASS

  • My jaw is still on the floor from seeing the Cherryholmes banjo player roll over the banjo player from kentucky thunder.

Even though their mandolinist botched her solo..i still know who im going to see next..

  • Jim Mills is way better at the banjo than Cia. It's no comparison.

  • Ma didn't really botch it, if you played the mando you'd understand.

  • Not to say that her break didn't have merit, I just prefer the type of break that statman took, but I'm sure that comes from my exposure to newer mandolinists, thile, marshall, bush, etc. rather than being around when Monroe was at his peak. Honestly the only thing that was wrong with her break was her slide back down the neck, other than that it was fine. (Oh, and I do play mandolin).

  • Her break wasn't difficult at all. Jim Mills just ended up with the bridge and couldn't shine like he normally does. He played the song, and she did a bunch of right-hand rolls...not much. Jim can certainly outshine her! However, it's all about music and fun...not who can make somebody else look bad.

  • Quite true.

  • Jim Mills could in fact be considered one of the greatest banjo players to ever live. In fact, Cia doesnt have a chance at receiving that kind of title. There is not one in Cherryholmes band who could match up to any of Kentucky Thunders musicians.

  • earl scruggs was bad-*ss, unfortunately, he wasn't Y2k compliant because shortly after the turn or the century he passed. He sure is well remembered in the bluegrass community though, And fondly.

  • The reports of Earl Scruggs' death are greatly exaggerated.

  • You just warped my mind - brilliant -

  • Whoa, I absolutely cannot believe I found this song. I love it.

  • did yall know that Cia can play faster than the guy who broke the guiness world record for fastest banjo playing? Cuz shes awesome like that.

  • heck ya

  • ricky skaggs can make a bunch of amateurs sound good, like them cherry or larry holmes or whatever they are. they couldn't make if without ricky and that awesome banjo sound everyone is hearing is MR. JIM MILLS, not the broad..

  • Who is that girl playing the banjo? Somebody tell me please... thanks.

  • Cia Cherryholmes shes amazing

  • giggleblade the banjer yer hearing that is so good is MR. JIM MILLS. not the chick son, don't let yer hormones take charge of yer ears sonn. LORD HAVE MERCY..

  • Yeah, I agree that Jim Mills is way better, I just didn't know who she was. I've never seen her before. I am in pretty good control of my hormones too. lol.

  • God Bless your heart giggleblade, you are a fine sport. I agree she's a good looking gal and talented too. i was afraid, i joshed you too hard. certainly didn't mean too, i worried all day!!

  • 1kyredneck1: actually, it's pretty clear that Cia Cherryholmes plays banjo first, then Jim Mills following. It is not only Jim Mills. I'm giving credit where credit is due.

  • nbogosian mills is the dominant of the two banjer pickers..wake up sonn..

  • Andy is a real talent. Unsung mandolin master, that one.

  • Thanks whipsnade!

  • Weird but good! Get a load of the ZZ top precursor and the orthodox Jewish guy,...weird!

  • The Jewish guy is Andy Statman, legendary mandolinist from New York, who I first heard playing cutting edge bluegrass with Country Cooking, Breakfast Special, Tony Trischka, and others. For more info check out his website.

  • And some raw down home bluegrass brings em all together!!gotta love music!!

  • ZZ was around a long time before this family started taking their act to the bank.

  • amazing

  • Were ricky scraggs and kentucky thunder a fixed band or this an odd live combination performance.

  • This is un-stinkin' believable!!!

  • dude that woman can tear up a banjo hahaha

  • Rednecks in action

  • This is AWESOME!!! You don't get any better than this!

  • there timing is bad they played the whole thing too

fast and broke to pieces in the middle :(

  • Are you crazy?

  • @mand0play are you familier with this kind of music at all? That is how its done!

  • agh... i'm just a cranky traditionalist thats all

  • I agree with you to a point. Skaggs is notorious for speeding songs up and always puts a progressive twist on these great old tunes. Guess I'm just a traditional bluegrass snob.........

  • The Cherryholmes kids are all prodigies. Cia, on the 5 string, has been playing the banjo for <5 years. Any time you have a chance to see Cherryholmes, DO IT. Beware of Jerry, though. Don't mess with his daughters!!!

  • HOly moly! I'm not gonna be able to sleep after watching that video! WOOO HOOO. Oh wow, its midnight, but I'm bouncin off the walls! Jimmy Mills and Cia pickin together, ahhhhhhhh!!! Yee haw. I gotta go.

  • That guy has the coolest beard ever

  • I have goosepimples!

  • Thanks for the great song! Do you happen to have other from similar shows???
