Love this song. It grew on me, and when the lyrics about the last phone call forever are sung, it hurts way down deep, for all of the lost loves in the past. Love Dick and Dee Dee.
I bought her book the vinyl highway and it is a must read for those who remember the 60s! DeeDee was sweet and answered my emais too. I bought a best of cd from her too since i had worn out young and in love on a 45.
I went to a Scopitone night in Berlin today, and it was the best thing I experienced for years. I also saw this video and I was totally amazed by this song. Thank you so much, you two!
After the evil Allies won WW II people stopped listening to symphonic music and started listening to cheap, shallow "music" such as this. This started in a long downward spiral of all types of entertainment and culture to where our society or what is left of it is today. In the future we can expect something similar to the film series Planet of the Apes.
I was a teenager in WA state when these came out and I got most your records. I enjoy your voices together, it has a wondeful sound. I do not think anyone can ever come close to the sound. Thanks for your dazzling music..
Videos sure have come a long way, i always loved these two and to this day when i here the song, TELL ME i still think of an old girl friend from 45 years ago. That song is still on the top of 10 all time ,ripe your heart out songs of all time.
yes..the video is what it is..but then so is the music. And that is Prime Dick and DeeDee. Touching, haunting, never to be repeated again. Truly wonderful.
I have this video on a Scopitone collection tape, and I absolutely love it except for the idiotic gyrating girls in it. I love how Deedee never even looks at any of them for a moment, but is singing very seriously (okay--lip synching), which is what the lyrics call for.
I especially love the brief scene down at oceanside.
The manner in which those go go dancers shook their bottoms in this video actually became an influential element in some of the more important developments in late twentieth century political thought. It also struck me as a wise move on the director's part to have both Dick and Dee Dee each hold not one but two sticks of cotton candie. Well done to all involved.
The way those go-go dancers shook their bottoms still have influence on elements of political thought into the 21st century -- one not only has to look in the direction of South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford and his Applachian Trail for that evidence.
This actually appears to have been shot at Ocean Park (Later Pacific Ocean Park) in Santa Monica, California. A classic oceanside boardwalk amusement park. Long gone, but not forgotten. I would add POP or Pacific Ocean Park to the key words for this video as I know there are many Ocean Park fans who would love to see the footage.
I loved Dick and Dee. I just finished her book. Someone asked where the video was taped. My Dad said it looks like the old Park of the Pacific ,AKA POP ,which was in Long Beach Calif.
This scene must look like it is right out of Cape Cod where that group got their musical training nearby and also met and visited some of their best friends and the family home of the then current President Kennedy who was killed by a Ku Klux Klansman because he authored a law outlawing racist speech and writing that was passed easily by Congress who really restrains the political power of the US President
Hey, the cd is great. But, just like the records, it may be wearing out... ha, ha. In addition, this time I know where to get a replacement. Thanks, very much.
I remember these videos--these were pre-MTV back in the day when there were no cable or Directv.
For all you young'ens, Dick and Dee laid the foundation for many singers today. Dick, unfortunatly is not with us anymore, he passed on several years ago, but Dee Dee is still around to share memories of their career.
I fell in love with this song when I first heard it when I was about eight years old back in 1982. My mother's 45's were all out and I played each one of them including this one. I still have the WB 45 of this song. It's a little scratchy but it plays without a skip.
How great is this!!! You and Dick did a fantastic job on this scopitone. I remember you talking about this at Lane and Pat's last Rock-it Radio get together. I hope you have more and will post them on youtube!
Technically they weren't TVs, they were 16mm films shown on a back-projection screen. They were similar to the Panoram jukeboxes that played "soundies" (one-reel musical performance films) in the 1940s.
The Scopitone machine was designed and manufactured in France, and many of the original Scopitone films are of French pop stars who are largely unknown in the U.S.
This "video" was shot in film (there were no videos then) as part of the Scopitone series (music scenes shown on tvs attached to juke boxes)in either 1964 or 1965. Dee Dee Phelps - dickanddedee
A beautiful record, pure soul, underrated popcorn tune and a brilliant video. I came all the from the Uk to walk on that pier and this video was on my mind, live long deedee
Our culture is dying when dorks who don't like a song or singer insist on making disgusting comments about it and the performers. Such insecure people wjo have no faith in their tastes
About a year ago, I tried the nearest music store to have them order cds but no luck. They couldn't find it. Their vocals and the music style sounds very authentic and unique unlike modern styles which are designed by record company executives for 200 hundred bands. I think thats why most bands become uninteresting after a few years.
"The Best of Dick and Dee Dee" CD is available on the Dick and Dee Dee website, listed on the top right of this page. Check out other vintage videos there as well.
Thanks so much for posting these. I was buying these records when they came out -- the early stuff on Liberty -- also later loved your version of "All My Trials." Never realized you did such videos; was this filmed at Santa Monica Pier? And isn't that where you and Dick are from? I don't mean the pier, I mean Santa Monica.
Thank you for all the wonderful music and great memories!
Yes, Dick and I did live in Santa Monica, California. You're right. This video (actually filmed by a movie camera)was shot at the Santa Monica Pier. It's a Scopitone. You can Google that to find out more about the juke boxes with tv's on top!
A thrill to hear from you. Little did I suspect watching "Shindig" 40 some years ago that I would get a note from Dee Dee! Thanks again, and after having read a sample chapter from your book, I will be sure to order a copy and hope others do likewise.
Dear God..What Record Label would have put this out on a vid play, let alone a "single". God,"where did all the Good Times Go"???? After "thou Shalt Not Steal". God,is this hokey,or what. DeeDee looks like she is getting impaled on the Carousel Horse. This certainly was at the end (hopefully) of their career. AWFUL!!!!
Great camp video! DeeDee sounds a little like a bleating goat. Also, are the girls dancing in the video hearing the same music we are? They seem to hit the rhythm only by accident.
That dancer was obviously a favorite of someone producing Where Did All The Good Times Go, because she's front and center in almost every scene. Typical of most Scopitones are "bikini clad clicks" dancing about.
Looks like the 60's WERE the good times

"HEY KIDS! Play with Peppy the Musical Clown!"
Positive attributes of this Scopitone:
1) DeeDee's white vinyl go-go boots
2) DeeDee's teased hair/wiglet with height in the back
3) Multiple go-go dancers
