Indy racing had its glorious days back in the early 90s, with different manufacturers and a lot of old and young F1 names making it a worldwide show, but the modern IRL has killed it. However, Le Mans has barely changed its spirit since many many years ago, that makes it bigger in my view.
@TheMaTaSS Oh, yeah, too bad I have Speed channel only in my office, "Honey, I have problems with my anual Tax Report, I´ll have to work all weekend -.-" *slams the door and runs like psyko
What channel is the best to have (in Europe) if you're interested in GT-style racing and LMS? I had Viasat Motor for a while, but it was mostly Formula 1 and NASCAR.
@Oracurax well i don't live in europe but i know "eurosport" is the one that broadcasts both le mans and the le mans series. idk about other forms of gt
@Oracurax If you want to find a proper channel that broadcasts racing of various categories such as touring cars, sports cars, grand tourning and others, then you would want EuroSport (Like thash mentioned) and MotorsTV which is very popular but only availible in Europe and the UK.
A lot of people say the Indy 500 is the greatest spectacle in motor racing, but to me this is MUCH more of a spectacle. Especially now that IndyCar is a spec series.
sorry, that was my douchebag brother. No, as you can tell by my screenname, I am a huge fan of this race. I couldn't care less about the indy 500. lol
@lemans24fan Oh! LOL alright. No worries. Yeah, I noticed your username and that sorta made me wonder what you meant. I, as well, am a HUGE fan of the Le Mans 24 Hour Race. What do you think about the Daytona 24? IMO it's rather stupid because (1) it's run on a roval, and (2) they turn the track's lights on at night so it's as if they're not even racing at night.
I do watch the daytona Rolex 24 but it is no where near as great as La Sarthe. The GT's are fun to watch but the DPs have been the same since their inception. And i do agree with you about the lighting. At Le Mans, the shedule the 24 hr race to be on the longest day of the year that has the largest moon of that month, because they don't rely on artificial lighting. So it usually falls early June. Can't wait till June 10-12!
@lemans24fan Yes, GT > DP. I can't wait either. The battle between Audi's new 3.7L TDI coupe & Peugeot's new open-top hybrid should be nothing short of epic. (that new Peugeot is a hybrid, correct?)
yes the new peugeot is a diesel hybrid. Team Oreca is gonna stick with the 2010 model for one more year I read. But the 3 factory Peugeots will be the new ones. They also will have larger front wheels and the mandatory rear fin according to Peugeot.co.uk The new audi r18 is my profile pic as I am an Audi fan, but nontheless, I just love to see a great battle between the two.
before, I use to be a diehard NASCAR and F-1, now I don't watch F-1 anymore and NASCAR races bore me for the most part, ever since I seen Le Mans. Those races have nothing on this one. I watched eight 24 Hour races and every one of them were better than both NASCAR and F-1 racing. Love the track, its length, speeds, level of competition, the endurance - a true race of last man standing - this sucker's awesome!
i like the different fuel types gives some variety and they are quick, before the oreca peugeot blew up loic duval beat the track record and that was set by a porsche pre-chicane track so it shows how quick they are even having to contend with the chicanes
@ladangelo202 hahah, well the chicanes on the mulsanne were introduced in 1990 which was ages ago, i have 2008 eurosport coverage of the race and they said the peugeots were going 225 in qualy and thats fast considering how much aco tried to slow em down, idk what the top speed of the weekend was in 2010. the sound of diesels is pretty boring though, i saw the r10's, they were very quiet and than a db9 would go by and it was the sexiest thing you ever heard from a car
@thash1127 yeah fuck the war on speed it sucks...... they hit f1 too it just sucks why make things slower people will drive that fast they always have everyone knows the risk why spoil the sport no more fuel stops in f1 smaller engines limits on bhp output and cylinders...... fucking diesels driving around... i need more speed and dont even get me started on all these fucking chicanes.....
@ladangelo202 i really like the no re-fueling in f1, i think it has forced more drivers to consider overtaking rather than waiting until the fuel stops cause there are none. but yea i agree on what you're saying overall, but easy for us to say, we just watch, 250 down the mulsanne is probably pretty gripping, the first few times would certainly be a serious test of courage but i've been up to 120 in my rx7 on a road that's bumpy and undulating, it's less intense each time
@IchiCrack idk what you're talking about, the audis you're looking at are p1 (audi r15 plus). and they just revealed their new le mans challenger a couple days ago, the audi r18, it's a closed cockpit just like the peugeot
@IchiCrack yep, at least for 2010. i think i remember reading somewhere that all cars at le mans must be closed cockpit for safety by 2012 or 13, but idk if it went through, i like both, variety is good. but audi needs to answer peugeot's more efficient aerodynamics so they decided closed cockpit is the way to go for 2011 and beyond
@thash1127 closed cockpit audi R18, new 90x, the brand new lola chassis which looks like the front half of the current car with the rear of an f1 and the stock block engine requirements. P2 has the 90k motor constriction which will be interesting to see as well.
@023R928 yea, I always want Audi to win over peugeot, since there are no American manufactures who have a real chance at the overall win. I also like mcnish and he drives for Audi, one of the best sports car drivers today.
This truly is the greatest endurance race on the planet as you said in your description. Despite Peugeot's loss (I support them), I managed to stay up for around 23 hours at home to watch the race :) I'm determined to go one day. I visit Silverstone for LMES & FIA GT1 anually but Le Mans is the real deal... I reckon the only way Porsche would enter with a P1 car is when Audi decide to call it a day.
Peugeot racing Audi with strategy was a foolish idea, Audi are the masters of race strategy and they pushed Peugeot into racing them on track and thrashing their cars to destruction
@maxilos1987 haha well said, Audi has the most incredible reliability in all of motorsports. I am very happy to see Audi still in the game, they've done more than they needed to, to prove themselves, should I predict an Audi vs Porsche match in about 4-7 years?
@thash1127 I think Audi who is owned by VW owns Porsche now so it would be a funny battle if there is one, i felt soo good standing in the grandstands at 3pm on sunday at le mans this year seeing 3 audi's cross the line together and the long faces on all the french who were there hehe
@maxilos1987 oh really, I had no idea haha, I thought if Audi got within a few wins of 16 Porsche would return to P1 class racing to defend their record but if they're just separate heads of the same dragon I guess not.
@thash1127 well its not dead certain they wont make a prototype again, GT2 911 hybrid surely and they may have a hybrid prototype it would be nice so lets hope they do
Somebody at Peugeot should have calmed Davidson down - he was the most demonic manuevering driver I think of the whole squad

@thash1127 i know it, i'm a le mans big fan, but i was thinking that the cars today could reach "only" something about 220, 230 mph .. the porsche 917 reached almost 400 km/h in 1971 and 1970! i wanna see that car
@Hasseta Watch the movie "Le Mans" by Steve McQueen to get a good idea of what the 917K was capable of. Also, one should note that even though the cars went faster back then, the lap times are quicker now, due to better cornering efficiency.
@markdartj58 yea that's right, 2010 was the fastest le mans race ever! before this year it was 1971 which held the record, so even with two chicanes and the porsche curves which aren't that slow, and reliability, the winning audi spent 20 min in the pits, the new cars are actually faster on average
@markdartj58 i watched! 2 years ago i think .. i love that movie, but that wasnt all that 917 can do, because steve was driving, and high speed is too dangerous, idk, but that wasnt the maximum of 917
I shook my head at that - I couldn't believe it - Awesome for Audi - wish TK could get another win but he had the traffic problem with the BMW - oh well, this race is unreal - I mean Lamy having the suspension problem - that was rotten luck - but 3 blown engines in the last 8 hours - who would have called that? Corvette also had two retirements after dominating much of the race - I think the race gods were watching and decided to turn this year's event on its head!
