I know contractors who have raised these animals and have spent many hours putting care and time into them. Bucking horses and bulls are raised and bred for the sport. I have been raised on ranches and rodeo circuits. I know many stock contractors that care for these animals as good as a house cat. You can't put this cowboy lifestyle down, its like putting BMX, modeling and computer work down. Just because one cowboy makes a mistake doesnt mean you can take it out on all of them. as I am a guy, thus I have balls and a penis, If you were to do that to me, I wouldn't buck, i would kneel over and not do anything at all. If you were to look at the flankstrap you would see that there is wool on the underside that touches the body. And if you were to pay attention in anatomy class you would know that the balls and penis are BETWEEN the legs. Thus in a spot that the flankstrap can't reach. And yes my dear, horses do buck like. I know, cause I am a rodeo cowboy

jstridin: If the horses don't need a buck strap to buck, then don't use one. Moreover why, when I watched dozens and dozens of horses in their pens at Cheyenne for long periods of time, did none of them buck? Not one. Not ever.

Heavens! A rodeo person was a child molester! That must mean that rodeo causes child molesting! The logic is inescapable! By the same logic, church causes child molesting, based on the number of priests who were molesters. It's so much clearer, now. 10thrunner: In our considerable experience there are two kinds of rodeo people. The first kind commits terrible cruelty, couldn't care less about the animals. Those are the people we expose. The second kind of rodeo people are the ones who know about all the cruel and corrupt stuff going on and don't have the guts to say or do anything about it. Those are pretty much the only two kinds of rodeo people we know.

Rodeo's aren't illegal --- and I just don't understand why not??? They are no different than dog or rooster fighting! This is just sick entertainment. Cruel and unjustifiable! Disgraceful that they are allowed at all and I will do everything I can to expose it to friends/family/neighbors/strangers - that they need to contact their representatives to have these abuses stopped.

I think the violence would be connected to violence and animal abuse only if the person "actively seeks" to abuse an animal. You have to take into consideration the fact that these people are brought up in a culture that does not view this as abuse, but rather an "art form" (for lack of other words. All rodeo came to be from working ranchers and cowboys. When the things you see in rodeo were done daily to sustain a persons livelyhood. For a non-profit organization trying to do good you are..

1234thatgirl: Violence is violence, even if it is not accepted as such by some people. Also, not all rodeo events come ranch work. Bull riding and bulldogging have no basis in ranch work.
Rodeo associations have failed miserably at humane enforcement. Some of the worst offenders in rodeo are the ones with the most power in the rodeo associations. This will work to the great determent of the industry.

how many times do you have to be told that bulldogging or steer wrestling does sometimes come into play at a ranch.. If you need to get a animal down fast you and say your rope breaks you wrestle it.. Like i said UNTELL you have GONE and lived a ranchers LIFE you have no claim to tell people what we do and dont do on the ranch..

YES any good ranch hand carries a second rope but there are situations were you cant get to that rope i have seen it happen, there are times when wrestling that calf or steer down is fast and safe.. ever seen a horse get its legs wraped up in a rope? with a calf panicing have and i dam well would jump off my horse onto it and get it to the ground

It seems intuitive that the connection is a valid one but without a support from statistics there is no basis for your conclusion that states rodeos lead to criminal violence. If I were you, I'd imbed a link leading to a peer reviewed article or a database supporting your claim. Without hard evidence your argument is a shady way to get your credible message across.

Mr. Brazile's claim, for instance, that sex with an under-age girl was "no big deal" was very illuminating. That's the same thing rodeo people say about their animal abuse. "No big deal." There will be many, many more cowboy criminal cases put up. That's because it is so easy for animal abusers to abuse humans also.

I think both GE0SH and JadedGemini have great points...you have no prof linking these conclusions that rodeo leads to violence. I don't exactly believe that steer tripping is humane but I have rodeoed most of my life in the local circuits, I have never witnessed abuse nor abused an animal. I do not rodeo anymore and I do not wish to again but that is for personal reasons not because I saw abuse happen or even heard of abuse before I saw your videos...how is that?
