  • Ironically, I became an atheist to this song.

  • THEY CALL ME THE BELIEEEVEEEERR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    FUCKYEAAAAHH

i'm so addicted to this guy

  • Just discovered this guy. Really great 2012 with 80's influences synthpop! Does anyone know if he produces his own tracks or he just writes the lyrics and sings?

  • @Tato9412 he does everything himself.

  • One of my favourite tracks of last year - an absolute beauty. So I bought the album it comes from on the strength of it without listening to any of the other tracks - huge mistake! Mostly Sisters of Mercy/Goth pastiche & a universe away from this song. Still glad I paid him though!

  • remind the blue heart "aozora"

  • I want this man to be the voice of my generation.

  • @societyisahole WHY CAN'T I LIKE YOUR COMMENT INTO OBLIVION, FUCK.

  • @hefenstahg ew , haha

  • John Maus is an intriguing character. I like him.

  • This is my karaoke song.

  • Best tune to play on NYE at a house party! We were all believers that night.

  • Shivers! Made by music! Finally! I'm 30, I thought I'd never have that feeling again...

  • My ears just creamed

  • @ferrthepeace I always keep a few Q-tips close by.

  • Awesome!

  • Dumb song.

  • I would like this if it were actually good...

  • @amicusnemini Thanks Captain Music!

  • DRENCHED in reverb. :)

  • SO CATCHY WTF I CANT EVEN GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD UNLESS I KILL MYSELF.

  • @Gouhzt HAHAHa this is so seriously funny. I love it and also you may want to call a crisis line because it is so catchy!!!!

  • this songs HELLLLLA CATCHY

  • @matthewjamal ok anthony

  • @gallagher0919 Forever

  • Jarvis Cocker brought me here.

  • Trippy :)

  • why is this in "best videos" playlist?

  • @hbformarketing beacue you are mainstream

  • garbage

  • Getting strong Joy Division Vibes. This guy's deep as a language obsessed oracle ought be.

  • @daftrhetoric What the hell is a language obsessed oracle? How do oracles have anything to do with language obsession, and why "ought" these language-obssessed oracles be deep? I'm confused. But I love this.

  • @vbmatak He professes a strong belief in exploration of expression and language, in his duty as an artist to 'make intensive use of a major language'. An oracle is a genius, an authority, someone sage, someone who invokes the concepts of broader agency accessible to them through study and inquiry into the minds of many via language. Considering the essential axia of many cultures, individuals, steeps a person to the point of perspicuity. He's like Noam Chomsky or Steven Pinker.

  • I love you John Maus

  • Is he Midge Ure's son? Kind of reminds me of Ultravox and Visage.. I like it

  • ahhh amo esta mierdaaaa de lo mejor!!!!

  • By the way, this album version is not that bad. But don't even dare to try this in concert... It's that much awful that i'm still in pain 4 hours after the concert. He got a real good sound engineer on this, but he doesnt have him in concert. He's just having a poor (out of loud) reverb that make this sounds like a teenage amateur's concert.

I still feel robbed for the 20€ i've spend.

And the way he moves... He's headbanging out of the rythm... I'm still crying about it.

  • I'm just out of his concert... I will take time to cool down and be fair.

It's been one of the worst concert ever in my life, and i got something like 300+ concerts. The worst thing i've noticed is that guy is dancing out of the rythm of his own music. It's something i cannot understand. He's using reverb to camo his voice, and even with that, his singing is ruining the music.

If i had any tomatoes around my hand i would have throw them in his face with a real pleasure. Now i got to wash my ears

  • Can't like the band but "Hey Moon" blows my heart ^^

  • @n3kas there is no band. Fail fail

  • what is this crap? my geography teacher decided to make a music video all of a sudden?

  • sounds like "don't answer me" by alan parsons project.

  • @imarocksinger I love when you can spot such copy cats, I do it all of the time. Thing is that you just failed doing so. What you want to look for is the basspattern/drumpattern/bouild of the whole song/way of singing/melody. What you are not looking for is a phrase like "belive" (the one you found). To do a correct copy-spoting we can take don't answer me and easily see how this sooner is a copy of ABBAs the winner takes it all, and WHAMS! last christmas.

  • @IStehSHIT ok to be fair, this song REMINDS me of don't answer me. not lyrically, but musically. and both winner takes all and last christmas are reminiscent of this track as well.

  • @imarocksinger :))))

  • To the Big Other of future fanboys, just putting this out there: original fanboy here.

  • Fuck this garbage throwback shit.

  • This song and album are based as fuck.

  • jackie chan going across the world!

  • @Subtropicx hulk hogan going across the world

  • anyone know the notes for that keyboard hook?

  • I am a believer in John Maus

  • the album version is really lacking compared to this one... its a shame that i have to use a youtube to mp3 converter to get this song in my collection.

  • /watch?v=bMqr9y6NDFk

    add youtube.com before that- bingo

  • Love John Maus, his music makes me touch myself

  • where can i find a hq download of this version?

  • @lollerskater you can download it as flac or wav on sites like boomkat and bleep

  • @tehclam i have this album but this video has a different version thats faster paced. could you link me to it?

  • @lollerskater i just checked out discogs.com the 3:59 version is only listed as a 128kbps free download. damn. sorry

  • Peru love this track.

  • beautiful stuff- check out JockTalk 8.5.0.5, similar kind of cat

  • @monsieurlegynge i searched for JockTalk but can't find it- link please?

  • @fazeunclegersh

    /watch?v=bMqr9y6NDFk

    add youtube.com before that...

  • this one's a bit sped up compared to the one on the album, it's a real let down listening to that version.

  • Telephone lines all across the world

People fight all across the world

Angels sing all across the world

Baby, you and me all across the world

Jackie Chan flashing all across the world

Hulk Hogan flashing all across the world

Baby lets go fly all across the world

Baby lets go fly all across the world!

    They call me the believer...

  • this had like 10.000 - 12.000 hits for a very long time ' what made it famous I dunno

  • @alpik1979 Pitchfork.

  • @alpik1979 fantano brought me here (and i am one of those prenentious bastars who hates that expression, but since you asked)

  • Amazing! It sounds like in my childhood, when I am on my old radio took such wonderful songs like this, in which I did not understand a word, but the tunes are still sounding in the my head:)

  • woah great

  • 6 people suck

  • This guy appears to be way ahead of the curve. A vanguard of a new renaissance? Is the human race poised to rediscover its innate aspiration for transcendence? I dunno, I hope so. Anyway, in the meantime this makes me tap my foot and air drum with gusto.

  • @simonjohnroberts1 Maybe. But this song is borderline "Life in a Northern Town" from the 80s....

  • @srrecords Really? By The Dream Academy? Borderline in what sense, sonically or in sentiment? With respect, I find it hard to discern any similarity. However, listening to "Life in a Northern Town" does take me back though to the halcyon days of my youth so thanks for the reminder :)

  • @simonjohnroberts1 good words

  • thank goodness for spotify for showing me this

  • @vodkabitter Thanks for your advice. This beautiful song helps me relaxing but I would also know the meaning/intention of this song. I guess that there is a basis of social criticism in it: e.g., are "Jackie Chan" and "Hulk Hogan" taken as examples of turning people addicted to stupid tv programs into couch potatoes?

  • Great song!

  • Indeed, it's a wonderful song but I'm afraid that I don't understand its meaning/intention. Why for example are selected "Jackie Chan" and "Hulk Hogan" among other famous actors? Just because they are very famous "professional" fighters? Moreover, I don't see the connection of the lyrics with what the chorus say ("They call me a believer"). Thanks in advance.

  • this was what it felt like to grow up in the 80s and watch Mtv when it was crazy

  • this song lifts you up

  • The Voice of a Generation.

  • NektarVision,

I'm sure you don't make better music whilst masturbating, and if so then that's amazing. I'm pretty sure most people don't have music emanating from their dick when they jerk off, but if you do then that's some serious skill!!!

  • @spwhoa Reply by typing @username.

  • hard synths and bass line are perfect

  • I make better music jerk'n off.

  • @NektarVision

well then you better make an album and put it out there dipshit

  • @peterphilip I recorded myself pinching a loaf yesterday. Its already off the chain on pitchfork.

  • No lo conocia, pero hay algo extraño e inovados que me atre de su musica. Intenta proponer saliendose de los esquemas

  • why is the album version of this (or at least the one i heard on spotify) slowed down? (or this is sped up) then again, i'm pretty sure when i saw john perform this he performed it fast

  • @incubusrok So classically composed music is also dead, by your logic that is? After all it has been around for many centuries replicating fairly similar sounds. I like your description of this track though...a bit harsh but funny. Oh and why does your name have 'rok' in it? Are you a rock necrophiliac?

  • Can't they just accept that rock is dead rather than produce this trite bullshit and continually remind us? This sounds like if stellastarr* hired my grandma to mix their first record, and then outsourced it to a bunch of cats playing in a cardboard box. You're all stupid.

  • Quality? Who cares? Energy? That's what matters!!!

  • Ariel Pink has "For Kate I Wait" as his lo-fi epic, John Maus has finally found his own epic, and its incredible!

  • @SOADafi

I was soo into Kate I wait 6 years ago because it was absolutely unlike anything else out there. It is insane (and fantastic) that this kind of music is building.

  • lol music grabs influence from all over and I highly doubt anyone is truly original anymore. To push the envelope and to try new things there has to be influence from somewhere. Even in the no wave movement there were several people all coming out at the same time in New York. It's bound to happen that some band is going to sound like another band or he is going to sound like this. Just sit back enjoy the sound and appreciate his viewpoint and how he is approaching the music.

  • Honestly one of the best songs I've heard this and the last century!

  • god

  • Hahahahahahahahah!! serious pullover guy makes crappy 80's pop. Howard Jones the ambient mix.

  • this guy has sounded like this since 2007, you want to confuse him with modern day chill wave or think hes copying ariel pink (he's co-accompanyinthg them), then be my guest but its not like he's compromised his sound to appeal to hipsters

  • I want him to win the pitchfork awards of the year just to shove it in ''their'' faces. the same people who called Ariel Pink ''freak-folk''

  • and suddenly my room looks like a freakin' disco club and i'm wearing some feather earrings

  • I just don´t get why the urge to post if you don´t like it...

    I dig it.

    Bring it on Mr.Maus

  • this guy has no epileptic fans. they all died

  • @fheisk Oh god, that actually made me chuckle.

  • good bassline

  • I do really love his album and the ace analogue synths. But im not sure it's a good thing becoming a "scene". It's not really pushing music forward but taking a nostalgic trip back in time. Don't get me wrong it's good but i find people like Bibio for example have taken on board these influences and brought out something totally unique.

  • just saw this guy at detroit bar. intense show. he's the real deal!

  • fucking hipster bullshit.

  • @replica217 just has a lot of retro influences.. you're just jealous mann

  • @replica217 If hipsters concentrated on the music rather than each other, they wouldn't be hipsters.

  • @replica217 No way is this hipster, this guy doesnt go for popularity dude, he plays what he wants to whether anyone else like it or not

  • best new mausic!

  • Just like David Vangel...John Maus is a pro at retrofitting music!!!!

  • @ClintHunt Different genres of music but would it not be awesome if David Vangel remixed John Maus?

  • is this a half a key higher than the one on the album?

  • @JoeBloggo400 Yeah, I noticed that too. On the album it's slowed down. Doesn't sound as good. Kinda a HUGE bummer cause that's why I bought the record!

  • @roxydylan Same here, but the other tracks growing on me

  • @JoeBloggo400 Regardless, at this speed it sounds sublime! Just get the vinyl and pitch it up!

  • @roxydylan yeah man i was thinkin the same thing!

  • aaaaaaand Pitchfork fans in 5... 4... 3...

  • i wish the vocals were louder :(

live it had so much more oomph... power...

which just made it feel that much more triumphant!

    you really wanted to believe!

  • wow.. love at first listen

  • @420dopethrone guess that makes us believers too, doesn't it?

  • Wonderful stuff! It's 1988 and I'm just getting home from the clubs, flipping on Teletunes, grabbing a NOTEPAD and PENCIL so I can jot down this great new artist!

  • hilarious!

  • they call him the believer

  • Lyrics: Telephone lines all across the world People fly all across the world Can't you see I'm crossing the world Baby you and me are crossing the world Jack Chan FIGHTING all across the world Hong Kong FIGHTING all across the world Baby let's go flying all across the world Baby let's go flying all across the world They call me the Believer oh oh oh oh They call me the Believer
  • it feels like this song has entered my body

and is now coming out through my pores

  • @arminho09 that's amazing. Take some john maus to exfoliate your skin! It'll radiate the sounds and tastes of color inside the pores and vibrate them giving you the apperance of a maniac that hit the big time!

  • this song makes me want to go to mexico or hawaii or something...

  • what a fucking legend

  • Jackie Chan flashing all across the world

Hulk Hogan flashing all across the world

  • I LOVE YOU

  • A beautiful dream scape of digital happiness in sound! Way to go John Maus!

  • cant stop hearing, I m sick real sick.

  • HULK HOGAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
