  • They were so great live, one of the best concerts I had been to. Miss those days, thanks for posting this!

  • This appearance on "Rock Concert" was my introduction to Cheap Trick. I was hooked. Still am.

  • This kicks so much fucking ass

  • Holy shit!!!! Simply awesome clip of some of there best......."Come on, Come on" probly there most under rated track....an awesome rocker.....its '78 and I'm steaming on my fast frigate somewhere in the West Pac... smokin the best Hawaiain and jammin to some of the best rock!!!!!

  • IMO CT epitomizes what rock and roll is all about... I think Robin Zander said it best "we're professional partiers for hire" or something like that lol

Should be in the RRHOF easy.

  • Awsome set!! Cheap Trick rocks!!!!

  • as usual, they take some supposedly "regular" structured songs and just rock the holy crap out of them ! perfect sense of rhythym, showmanship, raw energy--all the stuff that's missing in the boring ass tripe that gets shoved at everyone these days. When you think about what it takes to pull off a good stage production, you realize that this one in particular was sheer genius.

  • I saw them at the SUMMER BLOWOUT held in Los Angeles at the Los Angeles Coliseum with Journey, Black Sabbath, Molly Hatchet, The Babys,

    April 1979

  • Thank God for Youtube for having the attachments to post great music like this. This beats the shitty shit that is Katy Perry, Lady Caca and other filth of today.

  • We need late night weekend rock n roll tv again!!!

  • @rayjmama Heavily agreed!

  • Remember seeing this when it aired - thanks for posting!

  • Remember seeing this when it aired - thanks for posting!

  • P Leary from the Butthole Surfers sure emulates his crazed stage presence from Rick. And acid.

  • I had a roommate when this album came out and whenever I put it on he'd call them Cheap Shit. Then we saw them blow Ted Nugent off the stage in Anaheim, California about a year later and he was stunned. Never spoke bad about them again. Turned into a big fan :)

  • @RR83y oh yes,oh yes,oh yesssssss....masters of the live show--nuthin like them around to-day--never spoke bad about them in the first place...rock on, fellow CT fan !!

  • yes they rock! no one had this sound...then..... saw them in atlantic city...rick is still a nut for 63.....bun e carlos....still great never missed a beat......tom was loopy and robin had his pony tail tucked under his hat with dark shades on lol

  • One of the most underrated rock bands ever. Incredible to seem them live back then. I wish some semblance of this would become popular again.

  • Used to see them all the time in the bar in Portage, WI - and at Doug Bouge's house!! ;) Those were the days...knew Robin before he joined Cheap Trick and was playing solo guitar in Wisc. Dells supper clubs!! LOL!! Didn't know he had that voice in him, but was pleasantly surprised when he started belting it out for Cheap Trick!! Tom, you were the bomb, too...

  • Fucking great video. I never saw this before, and this fucking rules. And how awesome is Bun E. Carlos? The most under-rated drummer this side of Jerry Nolan.

  • I remember seeing this when it was first aired.

  • GREAT THEN...GREAT NOW!!!

  • 2 fokin sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!! \m/

  • THE BEST opening song ever!!!!!

  • Absolutely brilliant!!!! America's BEST Live Rock'N'Roll band!! YEAH I SAID IT!! \m/\m/

    Cheap Trick

    Cheap Trick

  • Bun E. Carlos rules!!! Obey!!!

  • amazing!! plus elo kiddies & come on, come on on this vid unlabeled! hot versions!!!!

  • I remember watching this on TV when I was 16. Fucking floored me! I thought I'd never see this again.

  • Simply amazing video. The ENERGY was INTENSE!!

  • this is awesome! wish there was more of this released.

  • Such an awesome band! I can listen to them all day! : )

  • I've heard so many musicians say that Rick Nielsen is a shitty guitarist. If that's true then I think I prefer shitty guitarists!

  • @Nigelxman "R.N. IS A GREAT GUITAR PLAYER" : ]

  • good old don, today where lucky if wee see this much inspired music on tv

  • And yet, these guys aren't in the R & R Hall of Fame?! Criminal!

  • @davmal01 whats funny is that the hall uses CT gear on display when showing elements of rock but they arent in the hall..lol

  • Who remembers the Palladium show in NYC back then???? One of the best shows ever

  • Who remembers the Paladium show in NYC back then???? One of the best shows ever

  • The best fuckin' band in American history.

  • 10,000 stars! This is phenomenal! And shows the real CT, not the watered down pop stars the record company wanted to make them.

  • This was the TV appearance that turned me on to Cheap Trick! Made just another late 70s lonely teenage Saturday night at home into something worth remembering!

  • this fuckin KILLS

  • I've seen them 11 times, beginning in '76 opening wfor Kiss, and last in 2008 with Heart and Journey. Just a great band. They deserve real consideration for the R & R HOF.

  • Anyone else notice that ELO Kiddies sounds an awful lot like When the Lights Are Out?

  • @jrnyfan920 It's intentional. :) And they covered it later: watch?v=ikLBEJtK6PM

  • Saw them at a small venue (casino) two weeks ago and they were brilliant. Robin's voice is still just so f'in strong. We were on the second row...thanks Rick for the 4 guitar picks---and the 30 years of rockin' asses off.

  • @kbscott426 was it at harrahs atlantic city, because i was there also

  • Rolling Stone magazine reviewed their 1st lp and the critic said, " Cheap Trick sounds like The Beatles if John Lennon was the leader"

Robin Zander was described as being a "vocal chameleon" Rick Neilsen found him singing acoustic songs....

  • saw them in '75 with Rainbow...'77 with Foghat...at Indre Studios...and at The Villiage, Lancaster Pa.

  • i saw them on 8-16-77 (the day Elvis died)

they opened for KISS..they even sang Blue Suede Shoes

  • One of the greatest american hard rock bands of all time

  • Does anybody know the name of the second song, starts at about 2 minutes. Cheap Trick rules, seen them in 79 and again in 07 and they still rock. The Hall of Fame is like the goverment, "CLUELESS"

  • The song is "C'mon C'mon" and it really kicks ass don't it? My favorite track of it is on the 25th anniversary of the Budakon concert album. The hall does suck but isnt rock n roll naturally opposed to the idea of some bunch of dopes passing judgement anyway? I dont need them to validate my heroes for me. Cheers!

  • @Booda35 , "come on, come on" is that song.... followed by "elo kiddies". classic!

  • It's a complete travesty that this band isn't in the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. Truly one of the greatest bands EVER!

  • I agree, they rule. But don't sweat the Hall, those people are full of shit anyway. Whats rock 'n roll about inducting 5 acts a year? They were probably at the disco when Budokan came out.

  • I first saw them open for Kiss in Montreal in 1976. Back then it was like Rick had just ingested a few gallons of rocket fuel.

I was on the floor about 20 rows back. Holy shit, they blew my socks off!!

  • I should be doing stuff of the list...fuck it, what a band...

  • Holy shit cheap trick!!!

  • LOL, how did Wings ever follow THAT??

  • True Rock and Roll bombast, listen to how loud that backline is cranked. These guys were great live.

  • They "were" not great live. they "ARE" great live!!!!

  • Touche', and no offense intended. Yes, they still tour and are still as good if not BETTER sounding than they were years ago. I have seen them so many times I can't count, and every show from an arena to a bar were excellent.

  • CHEAP TRICK IS FUCKING GREAT

  • i blame these guys.

bun e the greatest driver ever

tom THE coolest rocker of all time

robin - my lead singer is better than yours

rick the punkest punk who didn't know it

it's all there fault officer, honestly

  • CT is exploding with energy and looking incredible! Love this video.

  • Bun E. is the definition of cool! He plays riffs to which other drummers feel they must grimace and emote. Bun E. looks most concerned with keeping his cigarette in his mouth. Great image management.

  • One of the greatest rhythm sections ever in rock.

  • Definately one of the best bands! CLASSIC songs on this video... thanks for posting... brings back alot of memories.

  • One of the best bands & live TV performances ever!!! Great quality & Thank you!!!

    Johnny

  • IF there was a true Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, not that BS in Cleveland, I'd say Trick would be hands-down member. But the way it is now, these guys are way too cool, way too Rock, and way too awesome for the one that keeps snubbing them. yeah-yeah, yeah-yeah!

  • @rockeraaj Damn, I totally agree! These guys are ROCK!

  • agree with all about the awesomeness of Robin's voice, and of CT overall--THE great American band of the 70s.

  • I remember this when it was first aired way back when. Saw em in 79 at Convention Hall in NJ. YESH!!!!!

  • OMG this music is totally awesome. Thanks so much for sharing this video!!! xxx

  • They did 5 songs,Hello Kiddies was also performed on this show but for some reason isn't included in this collection.

  • one of the top ten voices in rock

  • Love Gun came out 78-79 bro. This is awesome . This show was amazing, Ted, ACDC!!

  • Seen them in Winnipeg,MB Canada 1974 backing up KISS on the Love Gun Tour.Everyone there never heard of Cheap Trick before. They STOLE the show!!!!!!Kiss was great don't get me wrong but,In my neighborhood everybody went and bought the first album & Blasted it!!!!Should start an online petition, they deserve to be in Rock nRoll Hall of Fame.

  • What a GREAT FKIN' BAND!!!!

....and ignored by the RnR Hall of Fame.

    SHAM.

  • Agreed mc. This is raw and explosive Cheap Trick. Amazing stuff!!

P.S. The Hall of Fame is a joke. It's pathetic who is inducted nowadays and who isn't!

  • you mean the 'alleged R&R hall of fame'. it hasn't been that for years...

  • Ladies and Gentlemen....Cheap Trick!!

This clip features the 10 string bass....yes...10. Hamer made this one for Tom before making him the 12 string he really wanted. Finished in lovely "Pepto-bismol Pink".

  • amazing!!

  • This KILLS. Love the band from this era. KEEP ROCKING CHEAP TRICK!!

  • Priceless. RR Hall of Fame... shame on you! On second thought, CT is too cool anyway.

  • America's Greatest rock band bar none.

  • This is America's Greatest Rock'N'Roll band!!

Catch'em live, and live the legend!!

    Cheap Trick

    Cheap Trick

  • This kills!

  • God I love Cheap Trick and youtube.

  • Very cool. A little bit raw but so much energy.

I just can't stop tapping my feet!

  • The mix? Are you serious? Good God, man! This footage is a gem. A gift. And it's a live performance. Not a sterile studio recording. Just dig it for what it is.

  • I remember watching this broadcast for the first on this date it changed my life musically..I became a fan, followed them around, and have met the band several times...A Really great, down to earth, quite funny and sarcastic bunch!!!!

  • Every word of what you said. When this originally aired, I could not believe my eyes, and ears. My jaw remains permantly broken from dropping to the floor.

  • This is, quite likely, some of the best footage I've ever seen.

  • Man, if only I could rate this footage 10 stars...

  • 31 Years Later... and they are still kicking it! New Album... tour... & Sgt. Pepper in Vegas. They are not riding some oldies circuit and collecting a paycheck...

  • sweet

  • Hey! You...posting these videos...you're driving me nuts!!!! ;-)

  • Robin can really belt it out! Bun E's on fire, and I can't stop looking at Rick and Tom! If I'm dreaming, don't wake me up!

  • Somebody want to give me an adequate explanation why Cheap Trick isn't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? I'm going to have to agree with the Sex Pistols on this, the Hall of Fame is a piss stain.

  • The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame stoppped being about rock and roll several years ago...It is a shame indeed...

Cheap Trick is one of our great national pop culture treasures from the late 70's and early 80's...And they're still pluggin' away hopin' to hit one out of the park!!!!

  • fucking awesome.....best live footage I've seen.....Fuck I love this band!

  • WOW!! Thanks Cheap Trick for this!!

    Goosebumps!!*** AWESOME BABY!!

    Cheap Trick

    Cheap Trick

  • He sure can sing! Even Robin's screams sound like singing.

  • ...WOW!!! Best band in the land.
