Holy shit!!!! Simply awesome clip of some of there best......."Come on, Come on" probly there most under rated track....an awesome rocker.....its '78 and I'm steaming on my fast frigate somewhere in the West Pac... smokin the best Hawaiain and jammin to some of the best rock!!!!!
IMO CT epitomizes what rock and roll is all about... I think Robin Zander said it best "we're professional partiers for hire" or something like that lol
as usual, they take some supposedly "regular" structured songs and just rock the holy crap out of them ! perfect sense of rhythym, showmanship, raw energy--all the stuff that's missing in the boring ass tripe that gets shoved at everyone these days. When you think about what it takes to pull off a good stage production, you realize that this one in particular was sheer genius.
Thank God for Youtube for having the attachments to post great music like this. This beats the shitty shit that is Katy Perry, Lady Caca and other filth of today.
I had a roommate when this album came out and whenever I put it on he'd call them Cheap Shit. Then we saw them blow Ted Nugent off the stage in Anaheim, California about a year later and he was stunned. Never spoke bad about them again. Turned into a big fan :)
@RR83y oh yes,oh yes,oh yesssssss....masters of the live show--nuthin like them around to-day--never spoke bad about them in the first place...rock on, fellow CT fan !!
yes they rock! no one had this sound...then..... saw them in atlantic city...rick is still a nut for 63.....bun e carlos....still great never missed a beat......tom was loopy and robin had his pony tail tucked under his hat with dark shades on lol
Used to see them all the time in the bar in Portage, WI - and at Doug Bouge's house!! ;) Those were the days...knew Robin before he joined Cheap Trick and was playing solo guitar in Wisc. Dells supper clubs!! LOL!! Didn't know he had that voice in him, but was pleasantly surprised when he started belting it out for Cheap Trick!! Tom, you were the bomb, too...
Fucking great video. I never saw this before, and this fucking rules. And how awesome is Bun E. Carlos? The most under-rated drummer this side of Jerry Nolan.
This was the TV appearance that turned me on to Cheap Trick! Made just another late 70s lonely teenage Saturday night at home into something worth remembering!
I've seen them 11 times, beginning in '76 opening wfor Kiss, and last in 2008 with Heart and Journey. Just a great band. They deserve real consideration for the R & R HOF.
Saw them at a small venue (casino) two weeks ago and they were brilliant. Robin's voice is still just so f'in strong. We were on the second row...thanks Rick for the 4 guitar picks---and the 30 years of rockin' asses off.
Does anybody know the name of the second song, starts at about 2 minutes. Cheap Trick rules, seen them in 79 and again in 07 and they still rock. The Hall of Fame is like the goverment, "CLUELESS"
The song is "C'mon C'mon" and it really kicks ass don't it? My favorite track of it is on the 25th anniversary of the Budakon concert album. The hall does suck but isnt rock n roll naturally opposed to the idea of some bunch of dopes passing judgement anyway? I dont need them to validate my heroes for me. Cheers!
I agree, they rule. But don't sweat the Hall, those people are full of shit anyway. Whats rock 'n roll about inducting 5 acts a year? They were probably at the disco when Budokan came out.
Touche', and no offense intended. Yes, they still tour and are still as good if not BETTER sounding than they were years ago. I have seen them so many times I can't count, and every show from an arena to a bar were excellent.
Bun E. is the definition of cool! He plays riffs to which other drummers feel they must grimace and emote. Bun E. looks most concerned with keeping his cigarette in his mouth. Great image management.
IF there was a true Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, not that BS in Cleveland, I'd say Trick would be hands-down member. But the way it is now, these guys are way too cool, way too Rock, and way too awesome for the one that keeps snubbing them. yeah-yeah, yeah-yeah!
Seen them in Winnipeg,MB Canada 1974 backing up KISS on the Love Gun Tour.Everyone there never heard of Cheap Trick before. They STOLE the show!!!!!!Kiss was great don't get me wrong but,In my neighborhood everybody went and bought the first album & Blasted it!!!!Should start an online petition, they deserve to be in Rock nRoll Hall of Fame.
This clip features the 10 string bass....yes...10. Hamer made this one for Tom before making him the 12 string he really wanted. Finished in lovely "Pepto-bismol Pink".
The mix? Are you serious? Good God, man! This footage is a gem. A gift. And it's a live performance. Not a sterile studio recording. Just dig it for what it is.
I remember watching this broadcast for the first on this date it changed my life musically..I became a fan, followed them around, and have met the band several times...A Really great, down to earth, quite funny and sarcastic bunch!!!!
Every word of what you said. When this originally aired, I could not believe my eyes, and ears. My jaw remains permantly broken from dropping to the floor.
31 Years Later... and they are still kicking it! New Album... tour... & Sgt. Pepper in Vegas. They are not riding some oldies circuit and collecting a paycheck...
Somebody want to give me an adequate explanation why Cheap Trick isn't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? I'm going to have to agree with the Sex Pistols on this, the Hall of Fame is a piss stain.
