I really believe this incredible guy could have been a first rate and honest politician, the like of which we have not seen in my lifetime. Please dont change Al. God bless you Jeno S-in-A.
The performance was excellent considering Al used Italian session musicians (not his touring group) from the show, which did a respectable rendition, including those on lead guitar, piano, strings and saxophone. It appears to be cheesy from a non-Italian perspective, however, most Italian TV shows are quite grand with elaborate stage productions, attractive young people (particularly women) and egotistical hosts. The great thing is that Al's beautiful music is exposed to a younger crowd!
I go to see Mr. Stewart here at this show. I see him backstage and he tell me how much he love Italy. I say thank you Mr. Al Stewart for coming. He notice we have same shirts and we laugh together two men with funny! He offer me a smoke I say no but please play full song next time.
He sounds so perfect here (looks grand, too!), it seems unbelievable he's not lip-synching from decades ago. Bravo! Yes, he is sweetly self-deprecating. He keenly appreciates quality, fine vocalizing, and so he feels he suits some other category. Yet, how dreadful to imagine that gentle, lilting, unique and perfectly pitched voice silenced from our lives...Soothing, healing, tenderly teaching. No one else can compare.
I said to myself "why would he say such a thing?" As soon as I heard him say " I think I am the only person... who can't sing" He is such a humble man it should not surprise me. But he must know that his voice is one of the most soothing and comforting voices. My children call him "Uncle Al" As they say he is "like the Uncle that everyone loves and goes to when they need a friend".
After the song, Al tells the host that he is the only person on the show who can't sing. I don't know who else was on the show, but who cares that Al doesn't have a trained voice? He writes brilliant songs and performs them as only he can. He's one of my favorite singers.
Did he really say that at 2:08?

He was an idol in seventies. This world isn't fair. It's cruel. If it was two young men doing that it had at least 5 millions access.

This is timeless, remarkable music. This album's last track, End of the Day, rivals any album's final cut for its total appropriateness and beauty.

You can Al, and what's more you can write and put it to our hearts as music. This is the stuff of legends. I wanted them to play the whole album.

Great performance, but the clap-a-long is a bit cheesey. What a strange-looking show!
