You're doing it all wrong. Mezz Shot, Focus Fire, turn your screen so you're not facing the player but still have him selected, do the beginning combo while "air whiffing", turn and face the player and drop the last combo key on him. He'll take full Salvo damage and be stunned from the mezz shot until the last hit.
