im a coal miner have been for years and cant see myself anywhere else and have never heard anyone say mining is not hard enough. Try bolting 300+ feet in 48 inche seam with 6 foot roof bolts then say its not hard enough
i work in a mine in illinois....as far as it not being tough enough.......we have a tall seam....60" or better but bad top, lots of methane and we are drilling through strauight mud...8' of it...makes for a tough 12 hours in my book....we dont have any rep and we are fightin the imsha man all the way......i love my job and wouldnt do anything else but to BURZAsANDsFARMS...from all of us that stay in the mines....kiss my ass
like i have told many miners how much respect i have for you guys. i was a miner ans got hurt had to give it up. that does not mean i dont know how hard it is. i have worked under top that was fallin all around us
@aoclimber1: we have the worst top in the state (WV mine) our production suffers when we have complete cave outs outby in the intake and returns. The result? 18 days straight, 10-14hr days. it's tuff work, but i'm still kickin.

@BURZAsANDsFARMS you must have worked high coal or for the union. come to alabama and work 42 inch seams with bad top and (direct quote form msha inspector) "this is top five on gasiest mines i have ever been in". 13 on 1 off. then see how you feel about it not being hard enough.
@aoclimber1 I HAVE A FRIEND THAT HAS A PHOTO OF HIMSELF IN 32 INCH COAL IN SOUTHERN IL. WE GOT SOME LOW STUFF AROUND WEST KY BUT MOST OF ALL WE HAVE BAD, BAD TOP. TRY RUNNING 6 PINS WIDE WITH 8 FOOT BOLTS AND PANS EVERY 5 FEET FOLLOWED BY WIRE FENCE WITH 8 FOOT BOLTS AND PANS SHOT 3 WIDE BETWEEN THE ROWS OF 6 FOLLOWED BY STRAPS EVERY 3 FEET WITH 15 FOOT CABLES AT 45 DEGREE ANGLES AND 12 TO 15 FOOT CABLES SHOT STRAIGHT UP AND IT STILL KEEPS FALLING IN.
