Most religions have a period where it is taboo to depict their holy figures. In fact, in early Buddhism, the Buddha was only indicated by a pair of empty sandals or a parasol, and never shown explicitly. The contemporary image of Buddha is actually Roman in origin, I believe...

I am a practicing Zen Buddhist, have been (what I consider) most of my Life. I like to think that the main point behind this whole episode is the fact that, in general, we take ourselves and our Faiths entirely too seriously. For those who don't know, Comedy Central completely edited out the revealing of Muhammad, without shame, immediately after Stan's big 'I learned something' speech. Well, I really don't see much more violence being perpetrated by Muslims than by, say, the secular west. In fact, much of the violence is a reaction to secular western foreign policy. After all, radical islam was practically founded as a response to torture taught by the cia. It's motivated more by politics than religion.
Yes, in modern civil society violence reflects badly on its practitioners, but Muslims are not inordinately more violence than others.

I am a practicing Zen Buddhist, have been (what I consider) most of my Life. I like to think that the main point behind this whole episode is the fact that, in general, we take ourselves and our Faiths entirely too seriously. I'm relatively certain that is the point that Mat and Trey are trying to put across here. So, as a Buddhist, yes I actually find this clip and many from this episode to be pretty damn funny. This episode made me lose all respect for American culture on the national level.
For those who don't know, Comedy Central completely edited out the revealing of Muhammad, without shame, immediately after Stan's big 'I learned something' speech. The fact that the producers didn't collectively flip the fuck out and threaten to sever ties with the network is disgusting, and yet even in the face of such a blatant lack of integrity, people still watch the show and praise it for being so 'edgy'.
