Could be but not necessarily...there are just too many versions of silat...however, mostly silat focus on low stance...some are animalistic in moves - sort of kinda Kung Fu techniques...anyhow, I know only one branch of it - Silat Gayong Pattani.

The Pandyas, Cheras and Cholas were ancient maritime powers there was an Indian prince at one time who administered the lands from Cambodia, Indonesia, Siam etc

I'm not aware the similarities between Silat and SOuth Indian Martial Arts...perhaps never seen one...I have seen Kalari Payat from South India...but it is way too different from Silat. BTW, Silat has some Black Magic/Voodoo incorporated..perhaps inherited from Indian Culture...Big No-No in Islam e.g. chanting mantera to make one invincible to sword/bullet. Even, without the superstitious practices...Silat is a respectable martial art...very efficient yet so graceful...
there is more in the art of making one invincible to sword/bullet other than the 1 u heard and its call nasrul hak or something similar to that.. i cant rmmber it too well.. it has been sometime.. this invincible technique however is far more difficult to practice than the black magic 1 but without negative effect since it came from a strong faith within Allah will.. i've read a partial from a minibook about nasrulhak from my freind who his brother did practice this technique.

Pencak Silat is not a "Muslim" fighting art. Its origins are indeed from the Malay people particularly Indonesia. If you know the history of Silat - you would know that Indonesia was controlled by Hindu and Buddhist empires before Islam ever arrived. So to say Silat is an entirely Muslim art is completely absurd.

I ended up getting quite few Silat mubai ( Pencak silat sharaf?) Videos because they gave me so much insight into what was alcking in my own Silat training, the content is very good.

(Cont)What the video doesn't tell you is that Silat has had substantial influence from South Asian martial arts predominantly from the Cholas a maritime South Indian power who were largely influential throughout South East Asia at that time. Most likely Silat sprung from arts such as Adithada and Southern Kalari. Hope this helps :)

Silat Gayong Pattani which school is that out of curiousity I do Taekwondo. It would be nice to practice an art from India or South East but very rare to find here. The Pandyas, Cheras and Cholas were ancient maritime powers there was an Indian prince at one time who administered the lands from Cambodia, Indonesia, Siam etc

I'm not aware the similarities between Silat and SOuth Indian Martial Arts...perhaps never seen one...I have seen Kalari Payat from South India...but it is way too different from Silat. BTW, Silat has some Black Magic/Voodoo incorporated..perhaps inherited from Indian Culture...Big No-No in Islam e.g. chanting mantera to make one invincible to sword/bullet. Even, without the superstitious practices...Silat is a respectable martial art...very efficient yet so graceful...

there is more in the art of making one invincible to sword/bullet other than the 1 u heard and its call nasrul hak or something similar to that.. i cant rmmber it too well.. it has been sometime.. this invincible technique however is far more difficult to practice than the black magic 1 but without negative effect since it came from a strong faith within Allah will.. i've read a partial from a minibook about nasrulhak from my freind who his brother did practice this technique.

Silat Gayong is one of the biggest Silat Association...Gayong Pattani is a branch...mainly practiced in northern Malaysia and Southern Thailand (hint: Pattani is a province in Thailand). I'm not an active member anymore, learning Silat to boost self-confidence and get to know my heritage closer. You can check out the Silat Gayong in Youtube.

Pencak Silat is not a "Muslim" fighting art. Its origins are indeed from the Malay people particularly Indonesia. If you know the history of Silat - you would know that Indonesia was controlled by Hindu and Buddhist empires before Islam ever arrived. So to say Silat is an entirely Muslim art is completely absurd.

Just because something is a "martial art" doesn't make it useless. Brazillian jujitsu is an example of an extremely effective and practical martial art (in combination with other striking systems)

the only reason why the attacker isn't fighting back is because its actually a video lession and hes giving insight on how to deal with his opponent once you get his guard down. Hes actually talking, the music is replacing it. You can actually see his lips moving...
