  • you're right it's Mac Poole

  • from picture i see it's Pip Pyle

  • Yes it would be good IF that was Pip Pyle on drums but it's not.It is MAC POOLE who was with Gong in 1972.He took over from Lauri Allen. Before playing with Gong he was the drummer with WARHORSE, the band Nick Simper put together when he left Deep Purple, with keyboard player Rick Wakeman.

    Macdrummer

  • 1 person has never glid before...

  • l'origine....

  • @cavemanfarts it's "fohat digs holes in space"!

  • is it true that gong means hawkwind in french?

  • That is Pip Pyle..He was a f'n good drummer...Love Gilli's warbling...Cheez Peece People!!!

  • I was 8 when this was recorded and I thank Jesus it took me until tonight to finally hear it.

  • Cracking.

  • Thank you for this. Saw them so many times in the early 70's as a young teenager.

  • Is that pip pyle? this is great! I saw them several times in this period. best was in walthamstow London. I helped lift in the speakers etc and gave David a banana! John Peel hosted. Classic stuff.

  • @jerryverrier Pip Pyle was such a great drummer, one of the most underrated rock(?) musicians ever. His work with Gong, Hatfield and the North and specially National Health is marvelous. It's so sad that he passed away...

  • awesome, thanks for posting this

  • Gong were at Glastonbury 2009! They still rule.

  • It was always a little tradition of mine to seek out Gong at glastonbury and go and watch them each year. But the fest has changed and Gong no longer play there (at least, not in recent history) which is a shame. Feels like part of the festival has gone for me. Arguably, with alot of other things too.

  • @palendromebob gong sound a lot like Hawkwind from the same period

  • @willowebb thats true, but more progressive than hawkind... and more acid!

  • lotsa hair!

  • This would have blown my little 14-year-old brain if I had ever experienced music like this back then. Now I just know it's good ol' great stuff. Thanks for posting this.

  • I saw them in a Virgin Records store appearance in Brighton, with about 12 other people. It was in daylight, so not as cosmically tuned as perhaps a night show with light show etc. Loads of hairy gits wearing tea-cosy headgear and looking stoned - cool.

  • Is that Pip On Drums.

  • No, Pip had already moved on. This vid has Laurie Allan on the kit with Didier pounding the bongos.

  • fumense el otro

  • is this off a POP 2 show?

  • What a great video theres is a book out called I was there about all rock fests I think they may have this show..
