There are dark indians everywhere!!.80% of indians regardless of their region are on dark or dusky side. it's got nothing to do with north or south. that's simply a stereotype. north indians are far more insecure and hence you only see a lot of pale skinned females in bollywood.
Eh, if someone wants to whiten their skin, I don't see it as a big deal. They should just do it HEALTHILY. No one should be rubbing laundry bleach on their skin. At least this whole "Fair & Lovely" crap is a better alternative :P
The problem isn't that they want to be lighter. The problen is with recent ads putting down ppl of dark complexions. Ads give off the impression that one is less attractive and desirable if they have dark complexions. That kind of negativity message should be condemned in India.
@giriisindahouse in america, girls are not looked down upon because they are white. Tanning just adds that extra "sizzle" so to speak, but in india, fairer girls are given so many more perks and have set the standard so that darker girls are deemed unattractive.
who said so? NO. Some people might be more attracted to fair skin, some dark. That doesnt mean the whole country hates dark skin or most Indians hate dark skin. Americans might not look down upon white women...but African Americans had a hard time living in America and the Native Americans almost got extinct. People have preferences.
@giriisindahouse I think it's mainly the way the message is conveyed in the different countries that makes people upset... in most of the advertisements for tanning products (which there aren't that many of anyway) they just don't really say that fair skin is ugly whereas in India the ads for whitening products present dark skin as some sort of an obstacle that you have to pass to be successful and they're everywhere so it's kind of hard for those with dark skin not to feel ugly.
@giriisindahouse-You don't understand the effect of such commercials in countries like India, where people discriminate based on a person's color. It'a not about a simple esthetic choice. It's about being judged for being 'dark'. Nobody is gonna think a white person is of low origin, ugly, not worth a good job because they don't have a tan. And while it's possible for 'whites' to get a tan, I've never seen a dark person becoming fair without makeup, so they are selling a lie.
@giriisindahouse A preference for fair skin exists in some places because historically fair skin was a sign of wealth. People who worked in the fields - poor people - had darker skin.
In more industrialized societies its changing a little. The guy with the tan seems better off than the pale-skinned office worker.
I don't like the message that this video portrays to its viewers, but Juhi Chawla is so beautiful!! I'm sure she looked just as beautiful if not more beautiful when she was dark though.

Evil and racist self hating commercial. These two females look like washed out
hybrids witl little evidence of true indian characteristics anymore. Darker indian
females look exotic and mysterious with pure Beauty.

haha :P at least they didn't exaggerate the outcomes of Fair and Lovely like they do now.

So its ok for Whites to tan their skin but taboo for Indians to make their skin fairer? What is this double standard?
